MIL wants us to use a UVA light on a baby with a cough

Has anyone heard of using a heat lamp/UVA light on someone's chest if they have a bad chesty cough (we've had a negative LFT and PCR).

Apparently she used to use a heat lamp when she was little?

I don't fancy doing anything without drs advice tbh but thought I'd ask on here too.

There are studies to show that UV light can help with covid. Also I know that it's used for eczema as dermatologists refer you for it.
I wouldn't use it unless it was direct from a doctor.

I would be telling her that nothing will be done without proper medical advice, thanks for the idea, but you and your husband will be making all decisions for the baby's care.

Nip any overstepping in the bud.

Yes quite right I'm no pushover so I won't be forced into anything but if there were any benefits I'd like to know.

It's just I've never heard of it but I thought the MN massive would know.

No clue but we use a humidifier at times and that can help...

Ffs no. Do not expose your baby to UVA. And to A pp Germicidal UV is completely different to a UVA lamp.

Can you tell me more so I'm armed with some information (if you have time).

Germicidal ultraviolet light is UVC. Not very good for skin exposure and can burn.
UVA is not as actinic but causes skin damage.
She maybe thinking of 'black light' which is blue light with a tiny amount of UVA. Which again will have no effect.
None of it will generate 'heat' if that is what she is thinking. For that she would need an infra red emitter. But I doubt that would work either.

Just tell her pseudo science to bog off.

There's no way I'll be doing anything with her lamp but I would like to figure out what she's talking about.

She calls it a heat lamp. She said that when she was little she and other school friends went three times a week for this treatment. You aren't allowed to look at the light and she had to wear special glasses and also a vest during the sessions. It was to loosen up her catarrh.
