Growing pains toddler

Hi,
I have read a few old threads but just wondering if anyone had a toddler with "growing pains" every night in one leg. It used to be on and off but for the last few months it is literally most nights and she needs a half dose of pain relief most nights to avoid her waking during the night in pain. I have tried Epsom salt spray and about to try Magnesium spray as well. We mentioned it to the GP in the earlier days and she said it was most likely growing pains and to keep an eye on it. But I think it might be time to investigate further? She is 4 years old.

My DD had similar when she was 3/4 yrs old which after a referral to paediatrics, bloods and xrays they said the only thing they could find was that her vit D was a little low and to try a daily vit D (not multi vit) that had the correct dose of 10 micro grams, most only contain half of what's needed.
We found the Boots own chewy bears had the right amount and as they did orange and strawberry she could choose which to go for.
They said it would take a month or so to build up but I believe it did work, too much of a coincidence to suddenly resolve after a year of pains.
And as its something that's recommended during winter anyway there's no harm inn giving a go.

Thank you RugbyMum. I have been giving her Vit D daily since August but may still.be worth checking her actual VIt D levels via bloods. Thanks so much.

Double check the amount as a lot of the branded vitamins don't have which we were told was the recommended level.
Hopefully she and you get some relief soon.

Is it definitely just the one leg only?

Has she had any bloods or X-rays ? I would be asking for those.

Lately I have been trying to keep track and nearly sure it is always the right leg only. Yeah, think it is time to investigate further.

Hi have you gotten any answer to this? My DS has exactly the same and only ever his right leg.

Rac3693,
I brought her to my GP very recently and she gave her a full exam and was happy enough with what she could see. But based on the frequency and intensity of the pain, she referred me to a paediatrician to be doubly sure it is nothing to worry about. She is fairly sure it is growing pains but she said as well as getting xrays etc done , the paediatrician could confirm if it was a mineral deficiency or something. I don't have that appointment yet. And recently, it is not happening as frequently for her so I think it is the longer more active days rather than these wintry days.

Thanks so much. My son’s has been going on for 2 years now and GP says its growing pains. It’s always at night and he’s fine in the morning. Does she have any other symptoms?

purplesequins · 01/12/2021 21:34

see the gp.
pain without obvious cause (strenuous, unusual amout of exercise or an accident/fall) especially if one sided should always be checked out.

Rac3693 · 01/12/2021 21:40

It’s always on the days he’s very active. I did see the GP but she says its growing pains

Aileen2004 · 01/12/2021 21:47

Rac, she has no other symptoms. Always during the night but sometimes she could complain about it in the evening before bedtime. I used to think it was only one leg but defo bothers the other leg as well, just not as often
