DD6 temperature WWYD

Hi guys,

I am getting my DD6 a PCR test tomorrow as she has had a high temperature since yesterday. Only reason for delay is that every single child who was sent home from her school this week had this same bug and no one has had Covid. I will do it tomorrow as a precautionary measure.

She is way more perky today than yesterday but is holding her temperature between 37.6-38.2 I had great fun trying to buy junior Ibuprofen at 3.50pm today as shops were closing 🙄

There are no other warning signs other than watery eyes and not much appetite. She can still taste things.

WWYD if nothing improved by tomorrow evening? Would you call the GP or is 3 days of high temperature not worth calling for unless symptoms change or get worse?

I may do a Lateral Flow now tbh, we have loads as I am a TA so do them for work and I am due to do mine.

Anyone else had this bug?

That's not too bad a temperature. I wouldn't call the GP unless you had other concerns.

Puppermam · 24/10/2021 17:08

Why would you call a GP for that temperature? I might call if it was over 39 and paracetamol wasnt bringing it down. But can't think why you wouldn't just look after her as normal especially as she's improving?

CPDubs · 24/10/2021 17:14

Unless my little one (3) was obviously in pain I wouldn’t medicate unless 38.5 or higher. Guidance is changing and advice from my dr was a lower high temp is your bodies defence in making the body less hospitable for nasties.

TheMooch · 24/10/2021 17:15

I'd do lateral flow. Order PCR.
If temp not lowering with paracetamol I might phone the Dr tomorrow but would probably leave it until PCR comes back if nothing else wrong.

Lots of viruses about, our immune systems not great due to lock downs.

Are her ears OK? Only asking as seen a few ear infections of late.

Hope she's better soon.

Xtraincome · 24/10/2021 17:18

@Puppermam no you're absolutely right to say what you've said. I just know the guidance on NHS website states that if it gets to 4 days with a continuous high temperature to let them know.

Just wanted to put it out there to the MN world to get an opinion. I struggle to go to my mum for advice on this as she has health anxiety. DH just let's me lead the way and voices concerns when he has them.

I wouldn’t bother putting her through an LFT, it won’t tell you anything to help her temp anyway, just wait for the PCR. If she’s well in herself I wouldn’t be too concerned with that temp, it’s the body’s normal reaction. But I’d also say if something doesn’t feel right phone your GP to check, it can’t hurt.

@CPDubs that's good advice thanks. I do that with our other DD who has a higher temperature as standard so we try to hold back in giving her medicine too readily with a high temperature. With DD6 she is less about high temperature and more about coughing- she's barely coughed once this illness though.

@TheMooch her ears are fine at the moment but will keep an eye out for sure. Our LFT came back negative.

Thanks so much for advice guys

@CottonSock will definitely keep an eye it's just unusual for her to have a high temperature but thankfully she is perkier today than yesterday when she was on sofa all day watching Barbie movies 🙄.

We are watching Harry Potter together now as DH takes out DD4 to soft play.

Thanks @WorriedGiraffe just got a text DH and DD4 are popping to McDs for dinner so no doubt she will perk up more by bedtime Grin
