6 month old diarrhea

So my baby is 6 months old, and for the past week and a half he's had a soiled nappy on nearly every change (6-10 times a day). I rang the health visitor and she said it sounds like he's teething as it was watery and mucousy but as the colour wasn't green, it didn't sound like he had an infection. Anyway, I took this advice and have been on tooth watch since last week. No teeth, not even a shadow of a tooth.

He's fine within himself, not dehydrated and just as cheerful as he's always been.

A week after I spoke to the health visitor and no teeth appeared and we were still going through many, many dirty nappies, I rang the doctor. He says he suspects CMPA, although he's been fine up until this point. Prescribed special milk which he's now been on for 3 days but he's still soiling an average of 8 nappies a day. Since being on the milk, the colour has been more "normal" and it hasn't been runny so that's a bonus and I'm happy to continue on it. His nappy rash (which was also new) has also got a little better which is probably because his poo is less acidic but if he's still pooing this much, could there be something else wrong?

The soiled nappies, we tend to have one big blowout in the morning, then throughout the day its small amounts. Sometimes it's almost grainy, sometimes a bit loose, sometimes nearly solid, the texture changes.

We have started giving him puree, but we started this at 5 months old and it's only the past 2 weeks he's had this problem. There was a couple of days where he only drank milk as well and he was still pooing like a trooper.

He's formula fed if this makes a difference and has been since birth.

Has anyone come across anything similar? I have a doctors appointment on the 1st of November to see if the milk has been working but not sure whether to call them any sooner?

He may have picked up a gastro bug
