Any advice or own experiences please before I pester the GP over something trivial.

One year of old woke up this morning with conjunctivitis typical red gunkey eye slightly red lid and swollen on the top.

Phoned GP to get some eye drops and she asked for a picture of his eye and said she wasn’t worried but would prescribe the drops just in case and to use in a couple of days if no better, fine. She then said something about if it becomes red or swollen underneath to ring back or go to the out of hours walk in but honestly the older two were falling out again making racket and the baby crying and I’m doubting what she said.

Anyway tonight obviously his eye is red and swollen on top and underneath but his actual eye isn’t bloodshot. I’ve started using the drops as a precaution but I’m concerned now why would she be more worried if it was red and swollen underneath what could this mean and would he need a different treatment.

Likewise I don’t want to be the mum ringing again about something as simple as conjunctivitis Confused

I think swelling underneath might indicate that there is infection in his sinuses as well so maybe that's why she's concerned.

Are you breastfeeding? If so, breastmilk squirted in his eye will clear it up brilliantly.

Yeah I’ve been bathing it in breast milk so hopefully that will help too.

Hoping it will look better in the morning but if not I guess I will have to ring back just incase.

My lo suffered conjunctivitis as a baby as few times and majority of the time the drops would work within a day or 2. The only time I took her to the walk in was because along with the conjunctivitis she had a very high tempreture and her eye bled a little due to a burst vessel and they gave her more drops and antibiotics incase of infection so just keep an eye on it and if it doesn't seem to be getting any better ring the gp for advice. Hope your lo is better soon
