Hi this may be a long post so please thanks for staying with,

My LG started getting an ear infection goin in July and since then has had the usual amox another antibiotic begining with C and last week amox for a week ,
None of these have actually stopped the leaking untill this week when we had 4 days YAY of no leaking !
But tonight it's back....

She's so well in herself , the usual gungky eyes and nose from nursery but nothing temp wise or anything !

Has anyone else had this.
I feel like a failing mum , like im not doing enough .
We have been referred to ENT. But who knows when that will kick in Sad

Even to know people have been through this will massively help !

@Aleshia31, how's your LG? Are her ears still leaking?

Christmas202 · 11/12/2021 17:46

We’re also in the same boat wee man had 6 courses of antibiotics and it’s still leaking

BobaTea · 11/12/2021 17:56

@Christmas202, did your GP swab his ears?

My DD had loads of ear infections, at least 6 a year, until she was four and had grommets which improved things greatly, but she still got occasional infections. It's not your fault, some kids are just susceptible.

My dd had ear infections every couple of weeks as a baby from about 6 weeks old. In her time, she’s had countless antibiotics, 3 sets of grommets, permanent drainage tubes, two cholesteatomas and countless surgeries.
She’s 16 now and still has a permanent drainage tube in one ear, permanent hearing loss and gets discharge and pain on a regular basis.
It’s not been much fun if I’m honest, and I’m not saying this to be a cow. BUT, none of it was anyone’s fault- just bad luck and tiny Eustachian tubes! You’re not a failing mum!
With any luck, this will just be a random infection that’s dragging on for a while.
Keep doing what you’ve been advised and put your trust in their ENT consultant when you get to see them.
Good luck, I know how miserable it is for you and your LO x

Same as Lilleth above.

Ds started at 10 weeks with constant ear infections, then had his first set of grommets at 20 months. Once they were out, back to ear infections and two more sets of grommets before they decided he'd grown out of it about 12yo. He still tends to be a bit deaf over the winter and get 2-3 ear infections but nothing like it was.

All the GPs we saw were no experts when it came to ear infections. My son had repeated ear infections and the short courses of antibiotics didn’t seem to get rid of them fully as a few weeks later they were back. The only time he had leaking we were given drops rather than oral antibiotics, (by an ENT consultant), which worked much better. He also needed grommets which stopped the repeated infections. We saw the consultant privately as the wait on the NHS would have been ages (but were lucky enough to have insurance at the time). It might help to have even one appointment with an ENT consultant who could at least give their opinion and suggest better treatment to the GP.
