Does anyone have experience with keratosis pilaris?

My daughter has just been confirmed to have keratosis pilaris. The doctor has said it’s only a small amount so putting cream on her 3-4 times a day is the best thing to start with. It turns out that I have it too but my parents never got it checked and it’s my biggest insecurity as it’s all over my arms. Does anyone have an experience with it and know of any tips/tricks that help soothe it?

I've had it since I was a young child and it's been the bane of my life. I recently discovered CeraVe cream with salicylic acid and it's the most effective cream I've ever used, and believe me I've tried all the usual kp recommendations!

Thank you! I will look into it, I am using Aveeno on my daughter but will get this for me and if it works then as she gets older I will know what to transition her onto

I have it all over my face and have never known how to get rid of it.

From what I have read no harsh scrubbing and only use warm water. Doctor recommended Aveeno creams and CeraVe for face so I'm trying that. Hope it helps

Agree with a moisturiser with salicylic acid, as @cosmopolitanplease suggests.

Although these are not mentioned if you read the official NHS advice about KP, I have had quite a few patients who find that creams with tea tree oil help (I'm a GP). Maybe worth a try?

Lellochip · 16/10/2021 14:06

Ameliorate cream is well recommended for KP

I have it too all over my arms and I hate it! Now getting it the past few years on sides of my hips. I'm going to try this Cerave cream!

The green korean exfoliating cloths work as well.

I tried everything before my wedding to get rid of mine, spent £100s on creams and gadgets. Nothing made a difference.

Erinrose82 · 16/10/2021 14:18

I had it and it went in my teens, and each of my children.. I didn't realise it lasted longer. My nine year old son gets it badly in winter and cerava cream is great but doesn't get rid, but best thing so far!

delilahbucket · 16/10/2021 14:22

Yes and I finally found something that helped last year - this stuff
www.renskincare.com/collections/toners/products/ready-steady-glow-daily-aha-tonic
It took several weeks to notice a difference, applying at night 2-3 times a week, with at least one day in between treatments.

delilahbucket · 16/10/2021 14:23

I should add that I also moisturise in between. It lasts a few months before it comes back again so I have to keep on top of it.

My husband and this and my son has it quite badly. Not sure if it's related but when my husband went on keto over a year ago, his kp went away! I'm wondering if it's a wheat allergy or gluten intolerance. I want to try to test the theory on my son but it would be difficult having to take him off wheat.
