Would you allow your 10 year olds to have a Caramel Latte from McDonald’s?

He desperately wants one, been asking for months.

He always has a milkshake which is very unhealthy anyway, I am thinking about the caffeine.

Would you allow it?

Yes

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/10/2021 12:17

I also had tea and coffee as a tot. Dd never did as things are different. But from time to time. definitely.

Nanananani · 16/10/2021 12:17

Yep! My 10yo loves them

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/10/2021 12:17

I mean time to time for the Latte.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 16/10/2021 12:18

Yes of course. Why on earth not?

liveforsummer · 16/10/2021 12:19

@Skysblue

Nope. Coffee shop coffee is very strong, research the amount of caffeine in it before you consider saying yes. Some of them put in a triple expresso as standard!

No way would I agree.

I'm assuming it's the iced caramel lattes that are basically just a milkshake and squirty cream with a hint of coffee, not the actual hot lattes which in McDonald's are too strong even for me in my 40's and would leave me with the shakes if I was actually able to finish it 😆
Toddlerteaplease · 16/10/2021 12:23

McDonald's don't do decaf coffee. My mum practically lives on McDonald's coffee!

itssarcasmjoan · 16/10/2021 12:26

Have they tried some of yours.
My 15 yr old likes the idea but hates the taste

Toddlerteaplease · 16/10/2021 12:27

I used to buy a special needs child at work a babycino from work. He'd occasionally drink it. But it turned out he really wanted my coffee, as thats what mum gave him. He was so cute I used to share it with him. (He was 6) My colleagues were Shockthat he'd drink coffee. But it was their culture.

Newnormal99 · 16/10/2021 12:28

Sure it's not a caramel Frappuccino he is meaning? That's my 10yo favourite drink - no caffeine at all.

Tigerwhocameforsupper · 16/10/2021 12:32

As someone who once ran a school trip where 30 kids all downed 4-5 espressos at the service station and were then high as kids for the next 8 hours I wish caffeine was banned for under 16’s!

Tigerwhocameforsupper · 16/10/2021 12:33

*high as kites. They are obviously kids!

Branleuse · 16/10/2021 12:33

yes if it was before lunchtime

LowlandLucky · 16/10/2021 12:34

It is coffee not crack. I had milky coffee every Sunday when i was little, i was about 4 when i first remember helping to make it. I had tea every single morning. One coffee every now and then won't do any harm

Egghead68 · 16/10/2021 12:35

Yes as a birthday treat.

tigger1001 · 16/10/2021 12:35

Neither of mine like the taste of coffee so it's not really an issue here. At their age I hated coffee too - wish that was still true 😂

They both do love a non coffee Frappuccino though. As a treat, it's no problem. Are they good for you? No. But like lots of things moderation is key. Once in a while as a treat no problem

Workinghardeveryday · 16/10/2021 12:41

He had the iced frappe thing, totally loved it, already asking when will he get another one!

So rather than supervise your charges better you'd ban coffee? Hmm
lollipoprainbow · 16/10/2021 12:48

Yes my dd 9 has it and loves it

Mossstitch · 16/10/2021 12:50

Queenofkattagat and sashh, I'm old too😜, milky coffee and big homemade shortbread biscuits were served in our school's dinners, was my favourite pudding😋 cola and chocolate contain caffeine too, your not telling me he hasn't had those by 10 years old!!

PickAChew · 16/10/2021 12:51

Yes, but maybe not in the evening!

Mossstitch · 16/10/2021 12:52

By the way a recent study has shown that 2-3 coffees a day is supposed to be good for warding of dementia, so my coffee habit is staying😂

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 16/10/2021 13:07

Yes, just not every day

Redwinestillfine · 16/10/2021 13:08

I would ask for a decaff. They taste the same but less hyper kids afterwards!

ThePoisonousMushroom · 16/10/2021 13:15

Caffeine is a drug so personally we've only allowed decaf until 16

This is hilarious Grin, from 14ish me and my friends used to get the train into town and go to coffee shops. I loved a mocha back then. We could also buy coffee from a machine in the school canteen!
Is it just caffeine in coffee you ban, or caffeine in coke/chocolate etc too?
