Blood and mucus in and with poo

Hey all. I know no one is medically trained etc but I just wanted to know if anyones experienced this with their child and can shed a little reassurance until our appointment next week Sad my little girl is 4, and for the last 2-3 months has been passing quite a lot of fresh blood and mucus when she goes to toilet. She takes movicol and lactulose, so her stools aren't even hard. There's no obvious signs of tears or piles from the outside, but the amount of blood and mucus she's now passing is increasing. She doesn't ever complain of pain, no tummy aches, she is quite a slim, petite little thing with very little appetite. She never has diarrhoea it's always a fairly good, firm poo. She doesn't complain when she goes to toilet that it hurts, and sometimes she bleeds from her bottom even when going to wee if she strains. I am literally worrying myself sick. I have lost my appetite and haven't had much sleep wondering what could be wrong with her. Sad has anyone experienced this and can shed some light? I have pics but they're very graphic.

Has she seen a doctor at all yet or is next week the first one? Has she had any tests?

RenegadeMasterx · 15/10/2021 21:55

She's seen a GP And we're seeing a paediatric gastroenterologist on Wednesday but I just can't shake worrying about what it could be. Sad

What has your doctor said?

Remmy123 · 15/10/2021 21:59

Did they do any bloods or stool tests? It may well be a good intolerance.

RenegadeMasterx · 15/10/2021 22:05

He was unsure. He felt her tummy and said he doesn't think it's anything too serious but was obviously concerned and referred us. This was a week and a half ago so it's brilliant how quick we'll be seen I'm just so concerned. X

So far we've had no stool or blood tests. I think that's what Wednesday will entail x

It could well be a food allergy. I would keep a food diary because it will speed up diagnosis even if it's not.

If she's on lactulose is that because she's had constipation? Because that would suggest dairy allergy or some food intolerence to me.

@RenegadeMasterx I hope tomorrow goes ok x

Hi @RenegadeMasterx just wondering if any update on this as my little boy is having mucusy stools.

Hiya! Yes, my little one had a colonoscopy and endoscopy at the evelina last October under general anaesthetic and turns out she has ulcerative colitis. She's medicated and doing really well. Has he got any other symptoms? Any blood/weight loss/appetite loss? Diarrhoea or constipation? X

@RenegadeMasterx oh bless her! Did it take a year to get that diagnosis?

no he doesn’t have any other symptoms - I tend to worry quite a bit. There’s basically been an occasional bit of mucus - kind of like a 5p size - alongside some of his stools over the last few weeks. He did have a tummy bug about 4 weeks ago and has a cold atm so I’m not sure if both those things explain it. Other than that his stools are mostly normal - possibly on the constipitated side but nothing awful and he does poo once, sometimes twice, a day as his “normal”.
