I feel like I'm on here constantly asking questions about my poor DD Sad

She's almost 2 and was sent home from nursery on Wednesday as she threw up. She's been sick three times since, and is having absolutely awful watery yellow diarrhoea (that happened initially during the night, so we didn't know, and has therefore given her horrendous nappy rash). The worst case of nappy rash I've ever seen - her skin is so red and scalded, and she shrieks in pain when we change her. It's awful.

So this is day 3 of her being ill. She's drinking some milk, but only picks at meals, no matter what we offer her. There's absolutely nothing we can do beyond keeping her hydrated, is there? We just have to wait for whatever it is to run its course?

Also I'm thinking I change her nappy a couple of times during the night, in case she has more diarrhoea which makes the nappy rash worse . . .

Have you put some Bepanthen cream on it?

boymum88 · 15/10/2021 15:37

Let her sit without a nappy on for a while just pop a towel down. When nappy's back on pop cream on and just keep her hydrated

Yellow85 · 15/10/2021 15:38

If she’s drinking and weeing ok then I think you’ll just be told to wait it out unfortunately. Have you been to the pharmacy - they might be able to help you with the nappy rash at least.

Also if she can get some time without a nappy that would help, appreciate that might not be doable if she still has diarrhoea tho, but maybe sit her in the bath for some ‘airing’ or an old blanket you’re ok risking!

RedPandaFluff · 15/10/2021 15:38

Hi @Lougle - we don't have bepanthen, but we've slathered her in sudocrem, which has always helped with bouts of nappy rash in the past. Is bepanthen better?

I believe if they have diarrhoea for more than 3 days you should consult a GP but I'd assume they'll only test a sample and tell you she's got a bug.

Just do your best to keep her hydrated and seek medical support if you can't.

Fluids fluids and more fluids. But stay away from milk for a bit, aim for water and very diluted juice. When everything has settled for at least a day, try the Brats diet. Bananas rice apples toast

My DC2 got a bacterial skin infection from nappy rash during a viral illness and had to have quite strong antibiotics to clear it up, so might be worth asking the doc to look at the nappy rash if it doesn't improve significantly with metanium or similar in the next 24h.

Loyaultemelie · 15/10/2021 15:42

Keep her well topped up with juice and water. For the nappy rash that sudocrem/bepanthan doesn't help I used egg whites whipped up which always worked wonders.

RedPandaFluff · 15/10/2021 15:50

Thanks everyone - following all your advice; sitting her in the bath is a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. I think I was just panicking a bit as it's coming into the weekend, but I guess I can phone 111 if she doesn't improve or I'm worried about infection from the nappy rash.

It feels like one thing after another at the minute. She's been ill more often than she's been well!

I found that the best cream for nappy reash is Metanium. It's bright yellow and really thick but it's amazing stuff.

RedPandaFluff · 15/10/2021 16:59

Just ordered some metanium, it will be here before 1pm tomorrow.

She just had another terrible nappy . . . definitely getting worse 😫

I second the metanium you only need a tiny bit and it works like magic. I also second not giving drinks of milk -just water. But I world offer some warm sweet honey porridge or weetabix throughout the day - it normally works in my dc.

We've also been hit by a d&v bug brought home from nursery.

Alicesays · 15/10/2021 18:03

If it's been three days I would ring the GP/111 now, and hopefully they will ask you to take a sample in. Hope she's ok soon.

momamama · 15/10/2021 18:16

I came in to say metanium. It's the only things that really works for bad nappy rash 👍

Taciturn · 15/10/2021 18:20

Coca-cola
Great for rebalancing electrolytes

TheAverageUser · 15/10/2021 18:23

For serious nappy rash do Sudocreme and then put talc on top to form a paste. My son had bowel surgery so I have experience and tried everything! Plus no nappy when you can and bath.

If she's hydrating I wouldn't worry too much for now.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 15/10/2021 18:27

Metanium is magic! If it doesn’t clear up (the metanium should make a big difference within a couple of days) she may have thrush in it..
As for the d & v, just make sure she’s plenty of drinking clear fluids and having some wet nappies.

Kara198 · 18/10/2021 01:12

Metanium 100%! My son had this and his bum was so so bad it was bleeding. I still have the pics which haunt me. We were slapping on sudocrem and bepanthen and it wasn't shifting. Within a day of Metanium it was almost 100% better.
Hope your little one is better soon

ShepherdMoons · 18/10/2021 06:25

Metanium is brilliant, I used it on my dd when she was little with a very sore bottom.

RedPandaFluff · 18/10/2021 09:42

Metanium definitely helped a lot! She's much better now thank goodness, but I'm exhausted from getting up during the night to check her nappy in case of diarrhoea. But she's healing and back to her wee self, which is great!

I have no doubt she'll have picked up some other bug or virus by the end of the week though Hmm

Thanks for advice, everyone!
