I'm sure my child has asthma

My little girl 3 years old was recently hospitalised for 1 week due to a chest infection. She was hooked up to all the medications and on regular nebulisers with oxygen. I'm sure she has asthma but the doctors are wanting to see what happens with the next virus. I can't go through that again though I just want the preventer inhalers. Anyone else had similar experiences with their little ones?

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Unfortunately I cant comment on this as a parent, but I developed asthma at 7 years old. I had 3 chest infections in a year and struggled with my breathing. It took a long time to get officially diagnosed, as they wanted to check how my body was reacting. The did, however, give me a peak flow and I monitored that daily in a book (used to get stickers when it was high haha!). This was 27 years ago now but maybe ask the GP if you can get a peak flow for your daughter to monitor her every day? This will surely help monitor her breathing and lungs when she has another virus.

I'm sure you are already, but keep a note of her breathing. All the times she's breathless, struggles when being active, any wheezing, any triggers that make it worse etc.

It might also be worth talking to Asthma UK. They have an advice line I think so might be able to advise on next steps and what to look out for.

Sorry, I know it's scary. As a new parent, I'll be watching my baby like a hawk with his breathing as no doubt he'll be asthmatic too!
