I am posting for traffic, so I am sorry as I know that irritates quite a few people. But I've asked family and googled but keep getting different answers.
I think I might have to get a doctors appointment today (if they've got any) but that doesn't really help my stress levels right now.

My 2.5yr DS started nursery 3 weeks ago, he just does 3 mornings a week. He has had a bit of a cough and cold since Friday, a bit lethargic Saturday but all pretty normal.

He woke up with a rash yesterday morning (the top picture) family and Google said everything from dribble rash to viral infection to chicken pox to impetigo.
He did also have a new toothpaste Saturday morning so I was worried he didn't get on with the new toothpaste.

I've been stressing its a first outbreak of cold sores just because I know they can be painful and outbreaks can come back for the rest of your life, not something I wish for my 2 yr old.

Now, he's just woken up this morning, and his face is now the bottom picture. He isn't scratching it or acknowledging it at all. I don't know if it's painful, but he's playing, eating and drinking like normal this morning.

Any ideas on what it can be? I will try and get a doctor appointment, but as I say, not the easiest thing to manage at the moment.

It looks like impetigo to me.

ChickenFeed30 · 04/10/2021 06:21

GP here. It’s impetigo. Give your GP a ring today as he’ll need some antibiotic cream.

Russell19 · 04/10/2021 06:23

Hand foot and mouth?

Ozanj · 04/10/2021 06:27

If it’s impetigo tell the nursery straight away. Seems like another parent may have been lying about their child not having it

TheWitchersWife · 04/10/2021 06:30

Got to phone up this morning and tell them he's not coming in anyway, so I will mention it. No one else at home has it (yet) I have a slightly older son who's very cuddly, so I did want to know if it was contagious as I'll need to keep a closer eye on him.

No spots anywhere else on his body, impetigo was a possibility from Google yesterday, but the spots hadn't really broken or pussing so there were still lots of other possibilities.
Thank you everyone for taking the time. Not had anything like this in the household yet.

I thought hand foot and mouth too

MilkywayMonarch22 · 04/10/2021 06:32

Hand foot and mouth or impetigo, heard of loads of cases of HFM going round at the moment!

Marmite27 · 04/10/2021 06:34

I would say impetigo. It’s exactly as a gp explained it to me earlier in the week, the scabs look like cornflakes. It’s the fluid in the blisters that’s contagious, like with chickenpox.

Marmite27 · 04/10/2021 06:36

It turned out to be an allergic reaction in my DC’s case, but we have an e-consult form we can fill in for the doctors. Did that, attached photos, doctor phoned back in 3 hours and electronically sent a prescription to our nearest chemist to pick up after school.

Do you have anything like that? I thought it was quite efficient. Better than DC missing (school in our case) for something relatively minor.

Yorkshirepudding1987 · 04/10/2021 06:41

My eldest's hand foot and mouth looked like that on his face.

Amammai · 04/10/2021 06:58

Impetigo. Make sure you use separate towels/flannels etc as it is super easy to spread.

MrsWidgerysLodger · 04/10/2021 07:01

Looks like when my DD had Hand Foot and Mouth. GP suspected impetigo too but too k some kind of test/swab which was negative.

Musicaltheatremum · 04/10/2021 07:04

@ChickenFeed30

GP here. It’s impetigo. Give your GP a ring today as he’ll need some antibiotic cream.
Another GP here. Impetigo. Pharmacies in Scotland can now give out cream for impetigo. Not sure about England.

Thanks everyone.

Finally got through to the doctors (172 phone calls didn't do it so DH popped in and they requested pictures of his mouth) he's been diagnosed with impetigo.
He was given an antibiotic cream for his skin, but the doctor phoned me again later in the day and prescribed an oral antibiotic aswell.

It just came on so fast, clear face at bedtime Saturday night, red spots yesterday morning, and full on yellow blisters this morning.

Nursery are claiming no one else has been affected, but he hasn't really been anywhere else, but I've alerted them anyway.

Thank you to everyone for taking the time to help.
