Should I take my baby to the doctor?

I have an almost 6 month old son and in the past couple of days he hasn't quite seemed himself.

He's never really been a crier however he has been having full blown meltdowns a couple of times a day. He's also been coughing a little bit (I assumed it was because of extra spit as he is teething) and today he has spit up almost all his milk and hasn't finished any of his bottles.

He doesn't seem to be in any pain and apart from the added crying he is constantly smiling. He doesn't cry when he's spitting up or seem bothered by it at all. He also used to fall asleep easily in his crib by himself but I have had to rock him to sleep for almost a week now as he can't get to sleep by himself. I'm secretly loving the extra cuddles but I'm worried that it may be a sign that he's not well.

Am I overthinking it and being a classic first time mum or do you think I should make a doctors appointment to be safe?

I would get him checked out. It sounds like an ear infection to me. My youngest is at ent this week after 4 years of perforated ear drums. The only sign was increased crying especially when laying down and coughing which was the infection dripping down his throat.

If you think there may be something then get it checked. There is no harm in it.

Sounds like it would be sensible to take him to the dr.

Have there been any changes to his diet recently e.g. weaning/milk brand (or your diet if u are bfing?). I only ask because my daughter was like this and it turned out to be allergy related.

Ok, thank you! I will make an appointment tomorrow!

No changes to his diet, we were thinking of starting weaning this week as he is very interested in food and puts everything in his mouth but I think I'll wait until this is cleared up first.

Thanks again!

Don't doubt yourself just because you're a first time mum. If you're concerned, then it's reason enough to get your baby checked. You're the only person who has ever been the mother of your child, so what others may or may not do isn't necessarily relevant - you're the one who knows your baby best, and doctors always say they would rather check and it be nothing, than not see the child and it be something.

Courage! You're a good mother to care, so don't doubt your instincts!

Yes always worth getting them checked out.

My DD wasn't herself and tuned out she had a raging ear infection.
