What age do you stop having access to your kids' medical records?

My ds received a letter from the GP practice just after his 14th birthday stating that he now had access to his own medical records, had to make his own appointments, and that his parents could no longer speak to the GP about him. If he wants us to be able to access his records, make appointments etc, he has to write them a letter.

I have concerns about this as my ds is autistic. But, more generally, I'm interested more generally in whether all GP practices are taking this approach. As I understood it, there is no set age at which children can make their own medical decisions - rather it's up to the medical professional to judge whether they have the competence/understanding to do so. So i was surprised at the blanket approach of sending out letters to all 14-year-olds.

Anyone had a similar (or different) experience?

My 15yr old is unable to sign up for online services which is a pain as it would make it easier for me to manage his medication reviews etc. He is also autistic so I hope this doesn’t become an issue as he won’t be able to manage for the foreseeable future.

Mine got cut at 12, but I just had to fill in a form at the GPs and it got reinstated

Never happened here? My dd still had me go in with her at 18 to make notes on her asthma review

And I've recently spoke gor her at age 21 as she wasn't understanding the doctor in the phone appointment

I had to request my daughters medical records and they told me over the age of 12 I needed her permission. This is Scotland though so not sure all of the uk is the same.

16 in England. I still make appointments for ds aged 14. It still feels weird for dd to go to appts without me...

My GP requires signed consent from a child once they turn 13 to allow someone else to talk to a GP/access their records on their behalf.

My DD filled in the form and I've had no problems with the GP practice since

Well as far as I know medical staff follow the NICE guidelines around competency to decide on treatment which presumes they are competent at 13 ( unless there are reasons why it’s not appropriate) so possibly following that timeline?
