Rash after fever, can anyone help identify?

Hi. I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old who have both had fevers over the weekend and have now both come out in a strange rash/rashes. My son (3) has very localised red bumps almost like ache which came on very fast, inside elbows, backs of knees and backs of arm pits very badly and then some more sporadic around his nose and mouth and on his bum.

My daughter (1) has had similar on the backs of her knees but it seems milder but more wide spread on her and is all over. We have been dealing with mild eczema with her for 6 months or so and this is in similar areas but worsening quickly.

Doctor diagnosed as post viral rash over the phone and photos sent to a medical friend said it wasnt rosea.

It has now stopping getting worse on my son but might still be slowly worsening on my daughter so i am mainly asking for her. Fortunately it doesn't seem to be bothering either of them so not itchy but it does look very sore. I also don,t know if i should be applying any creams. We have steroid cream for eczema, sudocrem, e45 etc.

Im also worried if it is contagious as they are supposed to be going into childcare tomorrow.

Hand, foot and mouth disease.

Oh course by looking at a picture a GP knows exactly what it is.
It actually annoys me their laziness in not seeing kids let alone patients this whole pandemic! Yet other health care providers are..

Anyway, rant over. My son has had a rash for like 4 weeks and they don't know what it is (helpful).

Take them to a pharmacist if you need too or a walk in centre if they doctors are going to be like that.

I don't think it's HFMD, it does look like Rosela. I'm no doctor but I wouldn't accept them not being checked out for that.

BlueberrySugar · 20/09/2021 14:59

Sorry, Rosea*

Littleroundsponge · 20/09/2021 15:02

Molloscum Contagiosum maybe.

Just a thought - have you done a LFT? My friend's DD had a fever and a rash and GP suspected covid. I don't remember the outcome of her PCR test but these were her only symptoms and she was otherwise OK. This was some months ago now and the whole family were already isolating because of v close contact to confirmed covid case. Not wishing to be alarmist in any way but your post reminded me that the GP was not able to identify it or attribute it to anything else.

My DC used to come out in non-itchy rashes like this after any virus where they’d had a raised temperate and the GP said it was a viral rash? The would last a week or so but didn’t seem to bother them even though they looked dramatic.

Boilingicicle · 20/09/2021 15:13

Temperature I mean.

Yes the doctor thinks a viral rash but its so strange they are reacting in both similar and non similar ways.

Don't thinks its hand foot and mouth and not on hands or feet.

I am concerned about sons face. he's got nasty looking blisters around his nostrils and sore patches in the corner of his mouth they seem very sore. He's never had a cold sore before so i'm hoping its not that. Can a virus flare up sore patches on the face that arent contangeous?

Viral rash or hand foot and mouth.

Maflingo · 20/09/2021 16:37

Have either of them had a sore throat? My dd was prone to a viral rash, much milder though than the photos you have posted. The sandpaper rash she had with a temp and sore throat turned out to be scarlet fever!

zaffa · 20/09/2021 16:37

@Littleroundsponge

Molloscum Contagiosum maybe.
I don't think it's this - my daughter has this and it looks nothing like that - and also comes up gradually, rather than all the bumps coming up at once
Boilingicicle · 20/09/2021 17:56

Morningstar The blisters around nose and mouth sound like something other than a viral rash might be going on. Whenever my DC got viral rashes they were pinprick looking and on arms, legs and trunk. I’d want the doctor to have a look just because of the blistering
