Hi , it’s now the rollout for the covid vaccine 12-15year olds
Will your teen be vaccinated ?

Mine already has at a drop in clinic last weekend.

@WouldBeGood

Ds is 13 and at greater risk of myocarditis from the vaccine than from Covid. (Both risks small)

The JCVI did not recommend it for teens on a medical basis.

I’d need to think very carefully and think I will give it a few months at least and see what happens. I’d struggle if I consented for him to get it and something happened to him.

I’m quite pissed off about the whole thing as it’s been a political decision and not about the best interests of the children.

Not much of this is true though.

There’s more risk of myocarditis after covid, not after the vaccine (ds has ongoing heart issues after catching covid 18 months ago.) and there are plenty of studies showing this.

The JCVI said the benefits (to health) outweighed the risks. The MRHA approved the vaccine unreservedly for teenagers.

If you don’t want your child to have the vaccine, that’s fine. But misrepresenting findings (such as the risk of myocarditis being higher after the vaccine, which is incorrect) in the hopes of making other people avoid it is dangerous.

Let people make their own decision without twisting the facts.

@Noshowwithoutpunch I hope these help. I know it’s a stressful decision for parents to make. As I said upthread, ds had covid last year, and is still having ongoing by heart issues. His consultant absolutely recommends the vaccine for my ds.

Thank you @BewareTheLibrarians.
Sending best wishes to you and your ds.

BewareTheLibrarians · 28/09/2021 23:32

Thanks @Noshowwithoutpunch

I should probably put the caveat that ds’s consultant is recommending the vaccine for him with his particular issues, I wouldn’t like to speak for all heart issues as I’m not a doctor and have no idea Smile For us it was a no brainer, but I appreciate it might be more complicated for other families.

Frostytiger87 · 30/09/2021 18:19

I am still in two minds with my dd getting vaccinated . I have to make a decision by next week

OP posts:
Snowytizer · 30/09/2021 18:24

Absolutely not.

SoupDragon · 30/09/2021 20:01

What if they want it though?

FreshFreesias · 30/09/2021 20:10

No way.
Don’t risk it.

bizarrustii · 30/09/2021 20:51

Definitely, my 13 year old had it 2 weeks ago and keeping my 🤞that he'll be eligible for jab 2.

Frostytiger87 · 02/10/2021 10:42

Will teens be offered a second jab ? How long between the first ?
Do they get given a blue card ?

OP posts:
Youneverknowwhatyourgonnaget · 02/10/2021 10:55

I am so torn about this. My first thought is they just simply don’t need it. A healthy teen is at next to zero risk of covid but my only thing making me even consider it is travel. We love to travel and think we will be restricted by then being unvaccinated. I’m not rushing it though I will be waiting till next year after there is more data to prove it’s safety. Both my children want it so I’ve just said I’m not saying they will never have it but we will just wait a little while longer

middleager · 02/10/2021 10:59

Yes, although one is now no longer eligible as he's just had Covid.

I'm fully vaccinated and caught Covid off him. He had various symptoms so was not asymptomatic. (this is in response to pp who hasn't caught it off their child and implied this is because of vaccination. Vaccination does not stop you contracting Covid!).

greensnail · 02/10/2021 11:09

@Frostytiger87 They currently are being offered one dose ( unless vulnerable or live with someone who is vulnerable).
They're not being given a vaccine card, but the card has no purpose really anyway, it's just a reminder of the dates and batch numbers.

lljkk · 02/10/2021 11:20

Probably yes. Too many hassles not to. School has announced a date -- early November.

Frostytiger87 · 02/10/2021 11:30

It seems that a lot more children are catching covid now , a few children I know have been left without taste of smell .
We have decided to go ahead I’m still feeling 50/50 but my child wants to have it .

OP posts:
bizarrustii · 02/10/2021 11:46

4 weeks until jab 2, eligibility depends on parental vulnerability.
Yes -they are given a blue card.
Nothing will focus your mind more, as a parent of a teen, than experiencing your child’s father in a prolonged Covid induced coma. The trauma is indescribable.
I wouldn’t want any other family to experience it.

Frostytiger87 · 02/10/2021 12:14

I’m so sorry bizarrustii , I hope that he is on the mend 💐💐
Nobody knows how Covid will effect an individual it’s frightening

OP posts:
Barwell76 · 02/10/2021 12:18

We are unsure but thinking probably not.

Divorce2020 · 13/10/2021 15:43

No my 13 year olds daughter isn’t having it.

Frostytiger87 · 13/10/2021 17:25

Well my child the vaccination last week she was fine afterwards got a period the day after
We will see what happens next month
There has been a spike of covid in her school so I’m feeling confident that I did the right thing even though I gave it a lot of thought
