Dental braces - straight to school after fitting?

My 12 year old is having braces fit next week. Neither DH nor myself ever had braces so we don't know too much about them. He gets them fit at 9am - will he be fit to go back to school afterwards?

Mine wasn’t. He had had to lay with his head tilted back for quite a while and was dizzy and his mouth was sore. Alright the next day though.

I would keep off for the rest of the day and send in the next.
Mouth will be sore for afew hours

They tend to be ok at first in my experience then hurt like hell come bedtime..

My DD was fine after having hers fitted. She was done in the afternoon and could have gone back had school not ended for the day.
Depends on how he feels.

It is usually the next day they hurt and make eating difficult.

Agree, the pain tends to kick in three or four hours later so fine to return to school. I send my DD back and then lots of TLC in the evening.

Yes back to school, they'll hurt a few hrs later when they get home

Give them soup to take for lunch

I always went straight to school but they do hurt terribly a few hours after application/tightening. I would make sure they can have painkillers when needed.
