Hey ladies! Sorry but its a poop question..my son will 3 in 2 months and i have notice for a long time now that he very often has undigested food in his poop. Like carrots,blueberries,beans,pineapple,apple..
These kind if things. Im just wondering if this is normal at this age! He is happy and full of energy, eats great allthough he is a slim child smile :) Any experiences highly appreciated! TIA

Kids of this age don't do much actual chewing and breaking the food down in their mouth! It's pretty normal, but the particular food which comes out whole isn't digested therefore the vitamins etc aren't doing anything but decorating the toilet bowl. So maybe cook carrot sticks (eg) so they are softer and easier for him to eat.

@didyouseeit Hi! Thanx for the advice! You mean they get no vitamins and nutritions at all? From the undigested food? I think they get but not as much!?!? 🙄🙄

The food isn’t undigested. The nutrients are absorbed from it, but the cellulose husk is left behind. This is normal in human poop.

It’s similar to how spiders suck the good stuff out of an insect and only leave a husk.

mommycarol · 15/09/2021 12:12

@PlanDeRaccordement Hey! So do they absorb nutrients or not? Sorry..im not english based..im european..you did explain wonderfully but i did not get all of what you said :)

Cellulose is present in entire piece of food from skin on through the centre. Think of piece of carrot is made up of plant cells on microscopic level similar to bubble wrap. The wall of each cell is made from cellulose, just like bubble wrap is made of plastic. The nutrients are inside the cells, just like air is inside the bubbles of plastic in bubble wrap. When we digest food, we cannot digest the cellulose, we instead get the nutrients from inside the plant cells. Just like popping the bubbles on bubble wrap to get the air inside.
