Chicken pox vaccine advice

Hi I am thinking about getting my child vaccinated against chicken pox and wandered what other people's experiences were. Has there been any side effects? I was also wandering if they have to stay off school at all as it is a live vaccine? Could they infect others? I've read through some research online but just wandered what people thought.

Nope, 2 kids had it here and no side effects, no need to keep them off school etc.

my older 2 had the CP jab and my baby will be getting it once she’s old enough. Cp is horrible.
I don’t remember any side effects and mine didn’t stay off school. The only down side is the price. Grin

Same here. No side effects, no time off school. Very glad we did it as both mine scar very easily.

Where I live, it is routinely given to children. I have read the NHS info as I have grandchildren in England. They say it is a mild illness. There is also some comment that regular exposure to the virus could somehow boost adult immunity and prevent some shingles.

My kids are adults and both had it before the vaccine. One had it a mild case and the other was quite sick with fever etc. and I had to take a week off work. Both had an unpleasant and unsightly rash.

Of course they both now have the virus in their bodies for life and thus can get shingles.

I have had shingles. So has DH. Despite antiviral meds it was quite difficult and painful. Mine was on my eyelid. Not nice.

Of course no vaccine is perfect. But I whole-heartedly would vaccinate my kids if I could.

I expect the NHS position is in large part a cost benefit analysis. I have difficulty understanding why children should be left to get chicken pox so adults that have already had it get an immunity boost. As some might say, this seems ass-backwards. Why not vaccinate children against chicken pox and adults against shingles?

I vaccinated my kids - no SEs and no need to stay off school etc. Glad I got it done. I have facial scars from where I scratched as a kid Sad

Thank you. I also understand that I'd need to keep them away from those with a weakened immune system for a period of time just in case.

No side effects here either.

They said no need to stay home unless the develop a rash.
I can't remember if we were told to avoid vulnerable people, but it wouldn't hurt just in case I guess.

I suppose if it is live it would be worth telling the school as a precaution as they might want to warn pregnant staff?

I’d have got mine the vaccine however they both got chicken pox first!

My child had the first jab recently and will have the second once we’re at the right interval. She was absolutely fine, no side effects at all. I’m really pleased that she is protected against chicken pox: I know it’s rarely serious but it’s uncomfortable and it can last a long time.
