Toddler head tilt - Torticollis?

I'm hoping someone can advise me. My 21 month old DD occasionally gets this head tilt. It can come and go within days. It doesn't seem to bother her or hinder her movement in any way. It does however cause her to be very unbalanced when walking. She seems well in herself otherwise. Today is the worst I've seen it hence my post asking for some word of wisdom.

Has anyone experienced this in their little one before?

My partner and I wonder if it's her sleeping position that's causing it? Stiff neck perhaps?

When I (dare I say it) googled this previously it came up with all sorts of alarming reasons.

I should get her checked out by the GP first and foremost I suspect. Even though that's easier said than done at the moment.

This can happen with a squint - might be worth a sight test

Or double vision

My dd had this as a baby and we got referred to a children's physio by the gp who was really helpful and checked her strength and gave us exercises to do. I think it could have been caused by a long difficult labour and then forceps delivery.

I changed her sleeping position as she always slept facing me so I changed where I was. I also made sure she sat in a position where looking at something interesting meant strengthening the tight/ short neck muscles eg watching tv stretching her neck away instead of letting her sit with her head tilted. It did go away with these exercises.

My dd was a bit younger than yours though and the head tilt was always there it didn't come and go. I think you need to get your dd seen by the gp to get her checked.

Possibly Torticollis, there are several types - see GP.

Get her vision checked

Definitely get it checked out - just to rule out anything sinister. Seeing an optician is a good starting point.

Just wondering if you have an update?

Thankfully she just seemed to grow out of this. She turns 5 soon and has no lasting affects from her wonky head when she was a toddler Smile
