My son (3) has over the last few days yawned/sighed on and off all day. He seems to do it more when he's at rest...he's still running around/breathing rate totally normal and during his sleep no sighing/yawning... could it be a tic? He's quite an anxious child and has also recently started biting his nails etc sad

I don't know if it's helpful but my son went through a phase where he'd cough all the time, it wasn't a cold/illness it just became a habit and it took a loooong time for him to stop 😭 certain family members found it really irritating and would make comments but thankfully it was before COVID so most people didn't think much of a coughing child.
He is also an anxious child so there may be something in that.

Anyway I know it's not exactly the same thing but I think some children do pick up little habits and they wear off in their own time

My son had similar on and off when he was about 8/9, i remember him taking a very deep breath quite often.

I think it happened to him when he was a bit anxious about things, and discussing it did not help, we just checked he wasn't feeling unwell at all and then ignored it, eventually it stopped.

My nephew had similar, his was throat clearing. Try not to worry, it'll go by itself if people don't go on at him about it. I did take my son to the GP and she said the same - habitual.

Thanks for your replies, I think it is just a habit but at the same time because it is his breathing I didn't want to just dismiss it...he doesn't have any other signs of respiratory distress and is perfectly fine when asleep which is reassuring me.
Wasn't sure if the yawn/sigh was a common tic so it's reassuring to know others have had similar things.
