Musty smelling sandy textured poop in 3yr?

For the past month my 3yr has struggled to poop (still working on potty training for poos. She refuses to go on the toilet and will only go in a nappy, and has only done a poo in the potty once). She keeps saying she wants to do a big poo and struggles to get one out. But she is not constipated. Her poo's are soft, mushy and kind of sticky (she drinks loads of water), but they are also really grainy. Like she's eaten a pile of sand (she definitely hasn't - and they're like this every day!) They're very hard to clean and wipe away. I need to use 6-7 wipes at least to get all the dry sandy grains away. The smell is also horrific, like a musty putrid smell. Not like a normal poo. Her poo's used to be a normal toddler log style, but for the past month they've been how I've described above.

Her typical diet is whole meal toast with jam for breakfast, and kid friendly food like fish fingers, chicken nuggets, pasta etc. She loves crackers as a snack.

After some Googling the most likely cause appears to be dietary. Potentially coeliac disease. She's already on a dairy free diet, so before I try and switch her to a gluten free diet as well, I wanted to check if anyone had any experience with something like what I've described above. Obviously I will contact my Dr, and I do actually have an allergy appointment for her next month, but am looking for potential help and answers now.

It's not a classic presentation of celiac but it is a condition that notoriously can pop up in a somewhat low-key way and worth getting to the bottom of if you continue to be worried over the longer term. Bear in mind that if you are going along those lines, the tests aren't accurate if you have already excluded gluten from the diet.

Young children's stools are notoriously changeable and can go through spells of being minging for no particular reason.

The foods you mention sound potentially a bit samey and beige but depends what is eaten alongside of course. Fruits / vegetables? If she isn't a fan may be worth thinking of some strategies to get them in.

Ok thanks, I'd read a lot about sandy gritty pops and coeliac. But good point about not eliminating it in order for them to be able to test for it. As for the diet, yes she loves those foods. They're here favourite. But she eats more of a variety at nursery. At home she loves fruit and eats a huge variety of it - at least 2-3 servings of different types per day. As for veggies she eats lots of peppers and cucumbers. She's not so adventurous with cooked veg like broccoli, peas, etc though. Still working on that.
