Scheuermann's disease?

My daughter has been having paediatrician appointments for autism and adhd.

At her last appointment I mentioned to the doctor that she felt like she had a gap in her spine. She felt her back and agreed it does feel like a gap. I mentioned it to my gap years ago and was told I was being anxious.

So she sent her for some X-rays and she called up today to say they think she has some abnormalities on the X-rays possible scheuermans disease. The part of her back that feels like a gap is has spinous processes that are not formed correctly.

So I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this ?

The doctor did say that it’s caused by growth spurts in teenage the gap has been there since she was a baby?

She has been referred to am orthopaedic surgeon but I was just curious if anyone had any experience with this.

My son was recently reassessed for autism after an initial diagnosis of global developmental delay when he was younger. Whilst it happened they also wanted to review him for possible marfens syndrome as his arms were longer than average, he is tall and his eyesight is affected. Lots of checks tests and heart scans later....nope he is just autistic. I am not saying your daughter doesn't have this condition but just because they are considering it doesn't mean she does have it. I would see what the surgeon says first.

I had scheurmanns as a teenager and it's given me 2 misshapen discs. I was diagnosed as an adult tho so they couldn't prevent the damage. It gives me a slight curvature but nothing disastrous. I do have to do a lot of Pilates to stave off the curve and pain though. If they're worried she could wear a back brace to help avoid any more spinal deformity, but obviously with the autism that sensory-dependent. Apparently it's genetic (my dad and bro both have stoops) and my bro and son are also autistic.... may be a link?

I'm 41 and was diagnosed at maybe 12...had loads of physio and pain relief at the time. Barely any lasting issues.
