Child tingling feeling in face

I suffer with health anxiety so hoping I’m just over reacting here - DS 7 complained tonight of what he describes as tingling in the right side of his face - running down the side of his face near to his ear.

He complained of this once before about 3 weeks ago. I started googling but I stopped myself as I know I’llkeep going til I’m convinced of some horrifying neurological condition or similar.

Can anyone reassure me please? He seems fine otherwise. He wears glasses and had his eyes checked earlier this year if that’s significant.

@Rainbowbrite82

I just feel really worried now.
This is understandable as you suffer from health anxiety.

It is the health anxiety that is making you feel so worried. If you ask a question people will gve honest answers and some of them will not soothe your worries.

Thank you @KimDeals and @OutIsay

He has no twitching or anything like that. I’ve just thought - and I apologise, I really didn’t mean to drip feed, it just occurred to me now- but he’s mentioned a couple of times that he’s had an annoying noise in his ear. He’s told me about it as it’s happening, lasts a few seconds and I’ve interpreted it as that weird thing where you get a high pitched long noise or “ringing” in your ear that only lasts a moment. So could it be more of an ear thing?

So could it be more of an ear thing? It could be, you would have to ask a doctor to find out definitively.

Thank you @DivaRainbow and @lannistunut

Yes, the HA is a real problem as it interferes with my ability to distinguish between what could be serious and what needs urgent attention. So I just don’t trust my judgement. And I end up calling the GP about any little thing. And worrying myself into a frenzy a lot of the time.

By the way, as I said, I’m not using mumsnet instead of a GP - I’m just trying to get reassurance until I can see one!

Has he fallen or bashed his face at all?

Sometimes tingling in the face can be from a vitamin deficiency.

Lindy2 · 18/08/2021 23:41

I spend a lot of time "rubbing better" various tingles, aches, itches, funny feelings etc that my 10 year old has. I certainly don't go to the GP for them unless they persist. We'd be there every week.

However, as your son's mentioned it a few times now OP I'd say it's worth checking with a GP. It does sound like it could be an ear thing. Has he been swimming at all? Water in the ear can sometimes cause buzzing sensations and strange noises.

I hope you get it sorted soon.

Rainbowbrite82 · 19/08/2021 00:00

No bashes to the face (although being a 7 year old he’s always falling over and bashing something so who knows!) but yes, when he first mentioned it we had been swimming a couple of times that week - for the first time in ages.

Just quizzed him a bit more on it. He says it doesn’tfeel like it’s his ear and he’s had it on the other side of his face before too.

Can’t do appointment til next week so I’ve done what I always promise myself I won’t do and googled until I’ve found the most worrying outcomes - and I’ve landed on MS amongst other horrendous diseases.

So now I just have this awful panicked, sick feeling in my stomach. This is pretty much my life. A cycle of calm then panic over random symptoms. And as much as I tell myself to calm down, and that random symptoms have never resulted in anything serious to date, I also tell myself that for many families, those symptoms do end being the result of something awful and so it’s not out of the question. I hate being like this. I just want to be a normal parent and for my kids to be ok Sad

I’m sorry OP, hopefully the GP appointment will have some resolve for you. Have you seen doctors for your health anxiety or anxiety generally? Flowers
Rainbowbrite82 · 22/08/2021 19:30

Thanks @PaddleBlue No, I haven’t but I think I really need to. I’m getting worse as I get older. The most minor of ailments can send me into such a panic and I lose all perspective.

Bit of an update - spoke to the Dr. He said it was hard to say what it might be but the best thing to do was keep an eye on it and keep a diary of when it happens - noting what he’s eaten, any physical activity, screen time etc.

He asked if there were any other symptoms, if he’d been ill, when he’d last had an eye test, if there was anything particular going on in his life at the moment.

He did mention the possibility of migraines but said it was too early to tell.
