Worried Mom. Is my baby autistic

Hi
My 5 month old boy doesn't respond to his name at all. Should I be worried about autism ? He doesn't show any other signs that I'm aware of and he doesn't have a hearing problem? I'm so worried about this. He was diagnosed with nystagmus at 2 months old which has improved so much and is considered mild. Has anyone else had this worry with their baby around this age and everything turned out to be ok?
Thank you 🥺

5 months is too early I would say. One of my boys was quite late responding to his name but is now a happy, sociable bubbly boy with no concerns. He came on leaps and bounds at around 11 months.

5 months is far to early for any diagnosis of autism.
Make a note of anything you're concerned about and mention it at your next hv appointment / check up

Not responding to his name really isn't an issue at 5 months. Do you always use the same name? Half the problem in our house is they're as likely to be called stinky or squidgy or beautiful boy as their name so it took longer (plus there's two and occasionally get called the other twins name)

Moght be worth a chat with the hv about your anxiety

Thank you for your reply ❤️ actually now that you say it I have like 10 nicknames for him 🙈 I'll stick to the one same and see how we go. I definitely need to manage the anxiety. Ever since his nystagmus diagnosis, I always think there is something wrong with him 😭 it was me who I always thought there was something wrong with before he came along . Thanks again

I'm so happy to hear this. Thank you so much. Hopefully he improves in the next few months 🤞

I don’t want to be dismissive and belittle your anxiety but honestly, i cant relate to what you are saying. I have a 6month old. No one has told me she should be responding to a name. It’s way too early. I call her by her name half the time: but the time it’s somtjeibg different.
Who told you your child should be reponeikg by now?

SleepingStandingUp · 18/08/2021 00:55

And honestly even when they're old enough, they're old enough to ignore you too!

I've just read it in a few articles about babies meeting milestones and I also have a friend who's baby is 3 weeks younger than him. A little girl and she is responding already like she will look when her mommy call her

Never compare babies. They go at their own pace.
It was closer to 9-10 months that my son would respond to his name and that was only if food was in the same sentence 🤣

Thank you so much for the reassurance, I really appreciate it! I hope he will improve in the next few months . My little guy has just started food since Monday id say he's gonna love his food too 😂

It's your voice they hear and respond to. Are you up close and chatting? Does he know your voice?

What sort of hearing tests has your baby had? My very significant hearing impairment wasn't picked up till I was in primary school, when I started telling people myself. The tests aren't infallible. Even now, my high-tech audiology assessments and tests can't really say what's wrong.

This is why we have doctors and health visitors. If you are worried you need to speak to someone in real life not random people on the internet.

They won’t mind. That what they are there for.

People on Mumsnet are often very helpful and knowledgable but sometimes some of them talk absolute bollux and some are downright unkind. Another problem is that a lot of them had the type of kid that would have been walking, talking and reading by 5 months. 😅

Hello,
My baby is nearly 11 months old and still curls toes (photo attached) is this normal? He's hitting all milestones so far.
Thanks

Totally fine. They have soft little feet so they curl easily.
Don't worry! (easier said than done!)
