Has anyone else’s baby done this? I am freaking out! My LG was holding onto my arms standing in the bath (she has a baby no slip mat) but stepped slightly off of it and slipped backwards under the water. She swallowed loads and as I grabbed her she slipped again under and swallowed more. I got her out and tipped her forward and patted her back it took her about 5 -10 seconds to catch her breath and do a few coughs. She has been fine since playing and had her bottle etc. I’m just so scared after googling and seeing secondary drowning can occur up to 2 days after. I feel terrible can’t stop crying. Genuinely don’t think I will sleep tonight. Do I need to see a doctor because of this ? I have seen online the symptoms to watch out for I’m a nervous wreck I feel so terrible

I would call 111 although they'll probably tell you to go to A&E to get her checked out.

Ring 111, we can't give you medical advice that's needed.

swallowing water does not cause secondary drowning, inhaling water does, and you are right to be concerned. You need a medical opinion, possibly a medical examination. Call 111. They may ask you to go to A and E

Sounds very unlikely that anything is wrong if she's been playing happily and had had her bottle but ring 111 for reassurance if you're worried.
It's tough being a mum, you need 3 pairs of hands and eyes in the back of your head sometimes.
Shit happens....she's OK.....have a cuppa and give yourself a break xx

I think if it was She swallowed loads and as I grabbed her she slipped again under and swallowed more then call 111 - they will have a flowchart and can help you make the right decision.

Thanks For your comments x I am just on hold to them now they want a clinician to call me back within 30 minutes if one can’t speak to me now xx

You've done the right thing. Secondary Drowning is rare but best to get it checked. Hopefully your dd will be fine

Cherir20 · 17/08/2021 22:59

@EmmaGrundyForPM thanks I’m so worried she’s sound asleep which doesn’t help as it’s not as easy to assess her. Going to be up all night worrying

Did you get any advice @Cherir20?

Hope you're not so worried now and all is well.

Cherir20 · 18/08/2021 13:57

@lannistunut thanks yes we was in A&E until 5am this morning (extremely busy with at least 10 children sick with croup!) they checked her over and had a listen to her lungs. Said they think all is ok but if any symptoms appear within the next few days come back. My new worry is she’s caught this god awful croup that all the children had in there Sad I’m sure being a mum is spent worrying 99% of the time Grin

Glad to hear you got checked and all is apparently well.

Yes - the worrying is dreadful. It does get a bit easier once you can rely on them to moan if they feel unwell!
