Fingernail injury (with pic!!)

Hi

My 5 year old caught my 3 year olds middle finger in a door 8 days ago. Initially the fingernail started to go black but he was able to move it so we just monitored
On Tuesday morning we noticed pus collecting at the bottom of the nail so took him to minor injuries. They said it looked infected although thought he didn't need antibiotics. They dressed the finger using inadine.
I then took him to our GP on Thursday morning as still wasn't happy with how it looked.
They made a needle incision to drain the blood from nail and prescribed antibiotics.
All the blood (which was awful) went but pus remained. They think he will lose the nail potentially.

It's now been 3 days since being drained and the pus is still there and the fingernail has blackened again.

I do plan to speak to GP tomorrow but just wondered if this is what normally happens for anyone who has gone through this or if you agree that this needs relooking at?

Pics show after hole in nail was made and how it looks again today.

Thanks

Are the antibiotics oral or cream, my DD had her finger shut in a door and after a week of awfully tasting antibiotics that were a nightmare to get into her and didn't seem to work the GP gave her an antibiotic cream and that really made the difference within a few days.
It took a while for the nail to look normal again but hers didn't fall off.

I would say as there is still puss and redness (taking photos is good as it shows if its spreading) it wouldn't hurt to get it checked again, after the week of oral antibiotics I showed it to the pharmacist connected to our GP and he sent us straight to reception to get her another appointment.

Ouch, that looks so sore! Did you get through to the GP today?
