Been a week now 3 year old dd had what looked like a bite on her chin. It had practically gone but she was at grandparents for the day Thursday and wouldn't stop scratching it while she was there, had a cool bath last night to clean it and wore a plaster yesterday to stop her scratching but it hasn't cleared up it is now twice the size it was when she first had it a week ago.

She seems absolutely fine in herself anyone any ideas? Will have to call in at pharmacy I think

For context would say approx 3cm diameter

I think that warrants being seen, looks like it's infected.

She may need antibiotics. Draw a line around the redness to monitor if it is spreading.

So I've visited the local independent pharmacy and spoken to the pharmacist who sold me an antihistamine cream. Got home and applied a small dab on the bite and then went to pop the tube away and noticed it says don't give to children under 6! Sad I feel so bad have wiped it off, will never trust that pharmacy again, I know I should have read the leaflet etc before, I wrongly trusted the pharmacist who saw my daughter who is clearly under 6 she is just three and quite petite could easily be thought of as two years old. Concerned of any side effects and will be visiting a boots later to find something more suitable.

I know this is ultimately my responsibility but I am shocked at the pharmacist providing this Angry

There are lots of things that say not for under 6 but can be used under guidance from a pharmacist.

I do appreciate that but on looking up the active ingredient it doesn't look like this is the case in this instance. I would be interested to see what another pharmacist thinks

Antihistamine cream will be fine on a 3 year old.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/08/2021 13:01

If anything it's usually so any rashes are checked by the GP rather than parents buying the cream when actually they should be checked.

You could give her Piriton and see if that helps.

Bites go like this on me as I'm allergic. Piriton will help
