My 9 month old has covid

Both me and his Dad have had covid and for us it has been really mild, like we've literally had about 2 days each in total of feeling rough. Well my isolation was supposed to be up at the end of today and now my 9 month old has caught it.

Friday night he was up literally all night just being irritable, he eventually settled at 5am for a few hours. The next day he was crying and whinging all day and feeling extremely hot. I tried to take his temperature but at the moment I've only got one of the underarm ones that takes 2 minutes to read and it's hard to keep him still for that long so how accurate the reading was I don't know.

Since then I've been giving him calpol and the odd bit of neurofen in between but he's still feels so warm and is so whingey. Any ideas on what I can do to make him feel better? He's not drinking his full bottle of milk and when I'm offering him water and even a bit of watered down squash it's like he's not even sucking on the bottle properly and won't keep his dummy in as well either. Usually when it comes to drinks other than his milk he'll drink out of anything, 360 cup, straw or whatever but now he wont.

Calpol and fluids whether milk or water. Offer food he likes but don't worry if he doesn't eat loads.

Keep an eye on the temperature and give 111 a call if you're worried.

Lots of cuddles from you and daddy too. Set up a bed on the floor in his room as well for tonight.

I’m so sorry you are all poorly, such a worry when the baby is unwell.

He might have a sore throat, so sucking could hurt. Have you tried spoon-feeding some milk?

Or Would he eat a little bit of not-too-solid strawberry jelly? Or some chips of ice or fruit juice ice lolly? Or munch on a thin sliver of watermelon or some tinned mandarin oranges?

Can you order an ear thermometer from Amazon?

Katie272 · 08/08/2021 17:37

Thank you all, yeah I've sent someone off to find another thermometer because no way can I keep him still for 2 minutes for the reading.

I've tried him on a bit of yoghurt and strawberries and he's not interested, I'm not too worried as he's clearly drinking enough to stay hydrated.

Probably just a matter of waiting it out and giving calpol when I can. He's just had an hour or so when he seemed fine, playing as normal now he's gone back to crying again.

See if the person getting the thermometer can get difflam too, one spray every 1.5-3 hours will help numb the throat. Can use alongside ibuprofen and paracetamol.
