Toddler with norovirus - when can he eat?

DS vomited between 3 and 5am this morning, 3 or 4 times. It wasn't super violent though, more retching and just a bit came out. He also complained of stomach pains. He then went back to sleep and seemed OK when he woke up. Kept a glass of water down at 8am and was hungry so has dry cereal an hour ago which he has so far kept down. I thought it may be norovirus as he goes to nursery and I know it is rife at the moment, though he seems to be getting away with it lightly if it is.

I'm super anxious around sickness bugs and heavily pregnant so would really prefer him not to be sick again and am being very cautious about not giving him food. Dh is very relaxed and planning to give him a normal lunch.

What do you think? It's only been 6 hours since last vomit.

Thanks!

I'd give him a light lunch, maybe some toast or similar and see how he gets on. Sounds like he's over the worst if cereal stayed down, kids tend to bounce back quickly but I'd go for grazing little and often rather than full meals for today, plenty of liquids too.

Thank you, good to hear you think he is over the worst. Feel pretty lucky if he is, as I often read the stories about sickness bugs on here and poor DC projectile vomiting for days and getting dehydrated, I dread this so much!

He does have form for always bouncing back quickly, then I catch what he has and it takes me down for a whole week!

If it's noro, is it likely diarrhea will come on at some point? Or would that have happened already? He is potty trained but wondering if a nappy may be a good idea for today just in case!

I have emetophobia so completely understand your anxiety! If my little girl says she is hungry when she's been vomiting I offer dry foods - toast, plain biscuits, crackers, ready salted crisps, breadsticks. If she keeps those types of foods down I move onto boiled eggs. Avoid dairy for a few days as this can irritate the stomach and cause vomiting to start again x
