Lump on daughter's neck..worried sick

DD(3) has had a hard, pea-sized lump on her neck for a good 3 months now (since we discovered it at least). Been back and forth to the GP who just says it's a lymph node every time and only come back if she has other symptoms or if it gets bigger in size. Unfortunately, last night we noticed that it's gotten a little bigger but she hasn't been unwell this time. I'm extremely worried. Does anyone know what it could be? She's absolutely fine, the only thing that's now playing on my mind is the fact that she seems to get a lot more tired during the day and tends to need a nap when she stopped having naps a while back. The lump seems to be movable.

Anyone please?

If you're not happy with the GP then I would pay for a private consultation OP. No one on here will be truly able to help unfortunately. Not enough to settle you anyway.

@qualitygirl yes, that's our next step. We're just getting an appointment with the GP due to the size increase and if nothing comes of that, we will be going private. Thank you

Has she had any bloods taken, I would be going back and asking for routine bloods to be taken. Just to reassure you if you are worried. Are there any other GPs in the practice if you are not happy with this one.

Absolutely follow up with GP and/or private GP.

As a note of reassurance, DD4 often gets one enlarged lymph gland when she's fighting off a bug, even if her symptoms are very minor (slight sore throat, slight stuffy nose), at first it terrified me (and she had blood tests etc.) Now I just put it down to her immune system doing its job.

Either way, get it checked, it's important. But there are 100 things it is more likely to be than anything 'sinister'.

Sorry not much advice but bumping for you. I've had it with 3 year old before and I'm sure he hasnt always shown as unwell. Try not to worry and speak to your gp again, maybe she has got a viral infection if she's more tired

Thank you. No, not bloods taken as of yet. This time, I will be asking them to run some tests to get a correct diagnosis.

I do really hope it's just lymph nodes or something not that serious...

Dr sounds bloody slack. It could be fine but they should be checking it, bloods etc. Can't you insist? I would! Ask to see another GP?

Good luck, hope she's ok.

I had a similar lump a few years ago. My gp said it was almost certainly a lymph node that had stayed swollen after an infection, but they offered me a biopsy to put my mind at rest.

I ended up having two biopsies because the first time they managed to miss the lump with the needle, and the gp was right, it was nothing to worry about. It eventually disappeared, but it was there for well over 6 months.

I was in NZ at the time, I'm not sure how easy/quick it is to get similar investigation in the UK, but I would keep trying, either with your gp or privately.

I had something similar with my DD last year.
Thing with lynthnodes once you know they are there you can always seem to see/feel them. Normally we wouldn't give me a second thought.
Definitely follow up with the doctor. Mine said she'd rather see me and reassure as many times than miss anything.
The fact that it is moveable is very good, also if they are soft/spongy to touch.
Hope your little one gets on OK.

My son had a similar lump. Eventually for my own peace of mind I got the GP to give me a private referral and took him privately for an ultrasound. It was a cyst. And it resolved itself after 9 months. But looking into it was worth it for my own sake.

One of my DC had a lump just like this when she was a small child. My GP assured me it was just a lymph gland that had stayed swollen, but I couldn't stop worrying about it. In then end, she arranged for blood tests and an ultrasound for reassurance. They were all normal. DD is a healthy teen now, but I can still feel that gland!

We were told that lots of kids have a slightly enlarged gland in the neck, but they tend to be more noticeable in very slim children and hers would probably become less visible as she filled out (I can no longer see my DD's gland, only feel it).

Also, I don't know if it's related, but she tended to have quite a lot going on in that part of her body in terms of enlarged tonsils, glue ear, allergies. She's grown out of these things now but I think the gland will stay.

My ds at 6 months old had a similar lump. What was an enlarged lymph node due to just a regular infection turned into a cyst. However, the lump quickly got a lot bigger. He was eventually given anti-biotics to help with the cyst.
