Has anyone paid for their child's braces?

Have had a bit of a shock, told today ds won't qualify for orthodontic treatment on the NHS so we would need to pay.

Could ask to be referred elsewhere, however everywhere seems to have a minimum of 3-5 year waiting lists, and at 13 have been told that it would be much better to get the treatment now.

So we are looking at paying £4000. Has anyone else had to do this?

DS qualified but the waiting list was 3 years and I wanted to get on with it.
The orthodontist I went to had interest free option so I paid monthly. I think it was £2500 in total.
Luckily the one I went to was fantastic and he used the latest braces which meant sons teeth were fixed in less than a year.
I’m glad I chose that option

DS1 had an initial appointment last week, he qualifies for NHS treatment because he has an overbite of 9mm but they they said he can’t have braces because he still sucks his thumb. They’ve given another appointment for 6 months time to give him time to stop sucking but he doesn’t want to. He has ASD and it’s a comfort/sensory thing.

Get a few quotes if going private, I had orthodontic work as an adult and there was a vast difference in a few of the quotes and the advice so worth getting all the information you can.

We were referred to an orthodontist who said my child didn’t qualify for NHS treatment. I asked about private treatment and was told I needed to pay for the same consultation again. I went to a new orthodontist who charged less for an initial consultation and he surprisingly told me he could do it on the NHS. We didn’t have to wait very long but this was pre COVID. May be worth a try!
