My son is 13 and had blood test for something else but they have said his thyroid is abnormal.

He has just had his third blood test and they said it's still not right and repeat in 4 weeks.

So that will be x4 blood tests for thyroid.

I do not know the results as spoke to a receptionist

I'm just worrying now

He isn't over or underweight. He does feel
The cold and gets occasional headaches, he says he finds it hard to concentrate at school sometimes. Don't they all?

Any thoughts - I can't get an appointment with the doctor until next week!

That’s really frustrating if you don’t know whether his thyroid function is abnormally high or abnormally low. From his symptoms it might be a bit low? If it is, I assume he’d be given thyroxine to increase his levels a bit. It’s obviously not great to have to start taking any medication in your teens but thyroxine is an easy drug to take - I’ve been on it for over 30 years now. Hope you get some answers soon. Xx

@glasgowLil thank you - he is already on another medication for life and now this 🥲

However, he does find it hard to concentrate at school and lately he has complained of feeling dizzy. Is that also a symptom?

Sorry I didn’t reply. Have you found out more from the dr? I’ve never felt dizzy when my thyroid levels have been low but symptoms can really vary from person to person. Hope you are making progress to find out what is going on. Xx

I had postural drop (when you stand up and blood pressure drops and you feel dizzy) before being diagnosed as having an under active thyroid.

Other things were tiredness, problems concentrating.

I wasn't diagnosed till early 20's but looking back.had symptoms from age 15

Get on to the docs and get an appointment. Unfortunately in my experience I had to keep pushing for thyroxine. I was sub-clinical for underactive and had so many symptoms it was effecting every day life.

If its underavctive I'd also ask for the bloods to include antibody tests.

Remmy123 · 13/08/2021 21:28

Thanks all - they are doing more bloods in a few weeks abd the antibody test

It's borderline apoarently

My daughter is borderline. Bloodwork for past few years shows up antibodies for hypothyroidism - so it's a wait scenario that at some point she may have symptoms and higher range T4 levels to warrant treatment.

Remmy123 · 14/08/2021 15:46

@Butterfly44 I did wonder what would happen if he has the antibodies.

He already has another autoimmune condition and need daily medication so what's another tablet 😬

I just dont want growth / puberty effected.
