My almost 9 month old has no teeth

My son is almost 9 months old and he has no teeth yet and isn't showing any signs of teething. We had one night a few weeks ago when he was up all night screaming and wouldn't sleep. I was giving him stuff for teething and finally thought this must be it. But the next day he was fine and since then nothing.

Because I had him during covid I've had no contact with a health visitor or anything except maybe when he was a few weeks old. When should I actually start to worry about him having no teeth?

He's been so forward with everything else, sitting up, crawling, stands up, walks around the furniture, he eats well, says dada but part of me is worrying he's never going to have any teeth 😂

My DS got his first tooth at 9.5 months, don't worry they'll come Grin

My DD didn't have a tooth till 13, she only has 4 now at 18

SuddenArborealStop · 29/07/2021 21:28

Months! Not years

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 29/07/2021 21:28

Upto about 15months is 'normal' apparently. My DD was 16months, which was when they were starting to worry.

DisgruntledPelican · 29/07/2021 21:29

Any time in the first year is normal for the first teeth

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 29/07/2021 21:30

Mine got their first at 13 months then grew loads very quickly. 9 months is still quite young. Don’t panic!

Katie272 · 29/07/2021 21:30

Thank god for that 😂 I know you shouldn't compare babies to others but everyone I know who's got a baby the same age or younger has at least got their bottom two teeth. I was genuinely thinking my child was going to be gummy forever 😂

All kids are different - my eldest is my slowest teether and she got first at 11 months. My mum always told me I got my first at 14 months.

Now my 8 year old has more adult teeth than my eldest who is 10... she still hasn't lost her middle two front teeth and overtaken by younger sister!

eurochick · 30/07/2021 22:10

Mine was 13 months when she got her first one.

JumpLeadsForTwo · 30/07/2021 22:21

One of mine had no teeth and no hair until 11mths Grin

JumpLeadsForTwo · 30/07/2021 22:21

Her adult teeth took much longer to come through as well

MangoM · 30/07/2021 22:23

Don't worry, you're not too late just yet!
Do his gums feel firm at all?

My son was 10 months when he got his first tooth. And when they eventually made an appearance they came one by one whereas all my friend's babies got them in symmetrical pairs.

I've just looked back at an old WhatsApp chat. The day I shared that my son had got his first tooth, some of the other babies were already on tooth number 8 Shock

PrincessConsuela12 · 30/07/2021 23:19

My DD didn't get any teeth until around 12.5 months and then she got 2 at the same time. She's 14.5 months now and has 5 with 2 more on the way

idontlikealdi · 30/07/2021 23:31

Unfortunately for you there will probably be a whole chunk come through at one. Keep an eye on the situation though, my niece had to have some procedure to cut her gums as nothing had come through but she was 2.

Vicky1989x · 31/07/2021 10:47

My DD got her first tooth 6 days after her 1st birthday then another 2 bottom ones within a month. She’s almost 15 months now and I think her top ones are finally coming in.

It was funny at her 1st birthday photos… seeing that gummy smile 😂

JamieLeeBee · 31/07/2021 10:48

My daughter was about 8 months old before she got her first, and after that they all came quite close together. She went from being the only toothless one at her swim class to the one with the most teeth!

LakeShoreD · 31/07/2021 10:54

Anytime in the first year is normal for first teeth! And there might not be any obvious signs they’re coming. My eldest always surprised us, she’d smile and there would be a new tooth. Never had any discomfort, dribbling, chewing etc.

smellyjellyshoes · 31/07/2021 10:57

First tooth around this time for DD, DS had his first at 4 months. I did take her to the dentist at one and they said they would keep an eye on her as teeth very slow but they then all seemed to come between 1 and 18 months.

I'd make sure you are giving vitamin d unless having enough formula, as it helps them absorb calcium. And obviously give cheese, yoghurt, milky things like porridge and low sugar rice pudding.

AlexaShutUp · 31/07/2021 11:00

Mine didn't get her first tooth until 11 months. She was also late to lose her baby teeth, but she has a perfectly healthy set of adult teeth now!Smile

Pokkadots · 31/07/2021 11:06

I was 18 months before I had teeth, my son was 15 months. The later the better according to dentists
