Molluscum contagiosum

My sons nursery have told us they’ve had a case of Molluscum contagiosum in my sons room at nursery.

I’ve done some googling and I’ve really scared myself.

He’s only 18 months old. 😣

I got mollescum when I was 13 and unfortunately my spots were all over my face :(. I'll echo what others said that apart from it looking awful, there isn't any pain/itchiness/soreness with them. I'm one of four siblings and all of us got them at the same time. The younger ones weren't bothered by them and have no recollection. I found it more difficult due to being at secondary school with them across my face and I had them for around a year. The good news is I don't think you can get them more than once and I'm now in my 30s and never had them again. I only have one small scar (from one I picked) but you wouldn't know at all now that I'd had them.

I went to war on DD molloscum
And tried everything. What worked was putting a capful of bleach in her bath and covering the spots with hydrocolloid plasters and/or zinc cream. They disappeared in days preceded by a post viral rash, a little like KP. The level of bleach is the same as you’d find in a pool. I was alarmed at first too! It worked

Well that's Donald Trump like health advice stick bleach in the bath! No, don't do this.

Molluscum may only show up as small bumps on skin. Both of mine got it at one time or another. Occasionally one of the spots would come to a head and we were very careful to make sure that we squeezed it out rather than let it burst and spread the virus. It'd usually be on parts of the body covered by clothes and spreads when the spots burst so its not likely to be very easy to catch at nursery. Nothing to worry about. Certainly don't need to be scared.

Ah, was just about to say we got rid of them with hydrocolloid plasters too. The cheap knock off blister ones from the supermarket.

My daughter has had them for months on the back on her knee on one leg. She’s never been unwell, occasionally mentioned them being sore when she’s scratched at them but they’ve never had any real adverse effect. Certainly nothing dramatic.

Thanks for the remedy suggestions, I’ll be giving those a try! Good luck op, try not to worry!

Grin Just half a cap full to a bath of water. It’s the same as chlorine levels in a swimming pool! It works. So does swimming in the sea but that’s quite extravagant !

The best way to get is see which is the "mother" usually the first and biggest. Then squeeze if u can or gently pick at it. This will then trigger the body into realising something is on the skin. As most often the body is not even aware they are there. This triggers the immune response for the body to fight them.
Did this for my son and they cleared within a week after having them 18 months.

As others have said, please don’t worry, it’s really nothing serious - it just looks worse than it is. I can understand why it worried you though if you’ve not come across it before. The worst thing about it is that it can take bloomin ages to go away - but when my children had it, it really didn’t bother them.

My daughter had some in Year 6 and about half of Year 7 on her face. They are painless. The dermatologist said you mainly see them in younger children and they are very common. Hers finally went away after her friend told her to squeeze them - cleared up very quickly after that. She wished she had them when she was younger as by Year 7 she was a bit self conscious starting secondary school with them. So please don't worry about it.

My three all had it ..looks horrible but does eventually disappear. Definitely not worth getting worked up about.
