So for the past couple of days dd2 has been saying that occasionally the world is spinning.
She can be fine for hours (no issue when cartwheeling 10 times in a row) but fell over when she got up off the toilet.
I saw her last night getting up off my bed and then lying down again and her pupils were manically moving from side to side

She is hearing impaired & was also complaining of itchy/sore outer ear when putting her aid in yesterday & today but no obvious signs of infection.

I'm sure I need to speak to a doctor but we go on holiday tomorrow & all the gp has done for months is refer to UTC which is grim. (The people are nice but it is over crowded doesn't feel covid secure and takes forever)

Could well be an inner ear infection as that affects your balance, and weirdly, doing lots of vigorous movements (like cartwheels) can clear it for a while. But being still (especially lying down) and then standing up can make the world spin. I once had one develop over night. Woke up, stood up, fell down and couldn't get backup.

Definitely call GP asap.

Vertigo could be BPPV, labyrinthitis or vestibular neuritis. Urgent care walk in GP could see her, she might have an infection you can't see or could be post viral inflammation. I had this post Covid and was prescribed antihistamines by the GP which helped in the short term, but as it continued I needed vestibular rehab. It can make you feel awful so best to get her seen.

Thanks - am in the telephone queue for gp now. After 45 mins have gone from 30 to 21.

Did you manage to get your dd seen?

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 24/07/2021 23:21

Spoke to surgery & on the basis of description they have given her an anti-biotic ear spray. She didn't have the world spinning this morning so fingers crossed it is an ear infection that we caught early.

Good, hopefully that will do the trick. Hope you have a good holiday.

@Choconuttolata how long did it go on for you before rehab helped ? How often did u go to it ?

Choconuttolata · 03/12/2023 17:27

4 weeks before referral, tried two lots of antihistamines for it first. Didn't see rehab until 8 weeks in due to wait. They gave me exercises then followed up by telephone 2 and 6 weeks later. The exercises are done daily at first then build up to several times a day.

@Choconuttolata thankyou soo much!
how long did it take to get back to normal? Did you get any ear issues with it? My gp said labyrinthitis but im sooo freaked out about mieniers disease and its getting me sooo down in the dumps x

Choconuttolata · 03/12/2023 18:23

What do you mean by ear issues? When you do the exercises you may get increased vertigo symptoms during some of them. That is why you build up slowly. Over time though it gets less.

It took around 8 months for the vertigo to be mostly resolved, but within weeks of starting the exercises I could at least function more, it still flares occasionally when I catch viral illnesses.

Starrrz · 03/12/2023 18:31

@Choconuttolata like ear pressure or tinnutis or ear pain?

ive been googling and meiners disease keeps coming up wnd im so freaked out this is my life now :(
but it makes me feel better when you say it took a while to clear that mine could just be like yours xx

Choconuttolata · 03/12/2023 22:59

I didn't have ear pain or pressure. I did have tinnitus which improved over time too. I have permanent sensorineural hearing loss due to COVID which didn't get better, but all my other symptoms have.
