Is this doctors worthy?

Over the past 24 hours my 18mp DD has come up with these sores around her mouth, and this bumpy rash on her feet. There are also a few spots/lumps on her legs that almost look like chickenpox- but she's already had chickenpox.
She also has quite sore spots/bumps around her bottom.
She keeps saying 'itchy' about all of them.
If she hadn't already had chickenpox (about 3 months ago) I'd be pretty confident it was that, and just treat accordingly, but as she's had it... would you take her to the doctors?
Or is it just violent heat rash?! I don't want to waste anyone's time!

Sounds like hand foot and mouth

beth821 · 23/07/2021 08:09

My son and I have both just had this, hand foot and mouth most probably

3luckystars · 23/07/2021 08:09

It could be chicken pox again too.

Wakeupin2022 · 23/07/2021 08:12

Hand Foot and Mouth by the looks of it. It probably doesn't need the Dr but obv if it make you worry less then give them a call! But it is a virus unfortunately so nothing they can do.

It could be a rough few days I afraid.

Airplanes · 23/07/2021 08:12

My guess would be hand foot and mouth which is common in small children. I don't think it's doctors worthy but keep an eye out because my robust healthy child also developed oral thrush and a gum infection when she had it. I think it's quite common that they can get other things whilst their immune system is trying to fight the hand foot and mouth virus

Maggiesfarm · 23/07/2021 08:13

I don't know. It will certainly be exacerbated by heat and sweat. Ask a pharmacist. Keep her cool, tepid sponged, well hydrated and give an antihistamine. The chemist will advise on what to apply to her skin to soothe it.

If it gets worse or she displays other symptoms, she does need to see a doctor. It wouldn't hurt to at least have a video call with your GP today because they won't be available over the weekend.

I hope she is better soon and you are reassured.

Maggiesfarm · 23/07/2021 08:15

PS: I have had exactly the same in the past because of intense heat and sweating. It looked like bumps and blisters.

Pythonesque · 23/07/2021 08:17

Agree with above posters! Hand foot and mouth comes to mind, and repeat chickenpox also. My sister and I were 4 and 6 with chickenpox I think, or maybe just turned 5 and 7. She got it, then I got it. She went back to school while I was still off, then broke out again and was off again.

Hope the little one feels better soon.

Seasidemumma77 · 23/07/2021 08:18

You can get chicken pox multiple times. There are different strains of the virus. Some people get total immunity after their first infection, some people only get immunity to the strain of the virus they contracted.

dementedpixie · 23/07/2021 08:18

Chicken pox isn't using I the soles of the feet whereas HFM is. It is viral though so not much a GP could do. You could use CP creams, etc on the blisters and offer cold foods/drinks and pain relief

bobcatbobcat · 23/07/2021 08:19

Definitely looks like hand foot and mouth.

It can be horrible. Calpol, lots of fluids and any food she fancies.

It can be pretty contagious, I caught it from DS and it was horrible

Hope she feels better soon

dementedpixie · 23/07/2021 08:19

Usually on*

Pingued · 23/07/2021 08:19

Speak to pharmacist or I'm sure GP wouldn't mind putting your mind at rest.

PluggingAway · 23/07/2021 08:22

Looks exactly like hand foot and mouth but don't take any random MNer's word for it. If you're worried just take her to the GP. You're never wasting your time if you are genuinely concerned about your child.

Skyeheather · 23/07/2021 08:39

It looks like Hand, Foot & Mouth. My son got it on holiday, it's highly contagious and lots of kids in our hotel got it. He was unwell for two or three days but it was weeks before all the spots finally went away.

MKCH · 23/07/2021 08:42

Thanks all - I did wonder. She doesn't have any ulcers which is what made me doubt it, also no real sores on her hands or feet (just the bumpy rash on the soles of her feet) - but the mouth sores do look like it, and it's itchy.

I've sent some photos to the doctors and they're going to phone me back this morning.

Bless her, the heat won't be helping either!

Thank you everyone for your eyes and advice!

What did the doc say, MKCH?

MKCH · 23/07/2021 21:58

@Maggiesfarm

He said that it looked viral, couldn't say whether it was HFMD or not but either way he couldn't do anything about it, so as long as she was ok in herself (or as you'd expect) and eating/drinking/the rash was disappearing under a glass it was a case of just getting on with it.

So calpol, keep hydrated, lots of cuddles basically!

One of her feet seems to be clearing slightly but the other has got a bit worse and her legs are getting bumpier. But she's gone to sleep fine which is a blessing in itself at the moment! Thank goodness for the cooler weather.

Thanks for asking!

How is your daughter today, MK?

I don't know where you are but it's cooler here today and there has been rain.

MKCH · 24/07/2021 20:34

Hi @Maggiesfarm - thanks for asking!
She's much the same sadly but also shattered from lack of sleep.
Her hands have got worse - many more blisters - and the sores around her mouth have now extended down her chin. She refused to get in the bath this evening before bed - I assume because she thought it was going to sting.

I got some aqueous calamine cream from Tesco earlier which seems to be nice on her skin and I also have some ViraSoothe that we used on her chickenpox previously so I've used that too. Not sure if that's making it better or worse.

Lots of cuddles today but I really hate seeing her sick. Her crying and pain made me cry earlier - she saw me crying, stopped immediately and came over and kissed my hand which was a lovely moment in the middle of all this!! Here's hoping it gets better tomorrow.

Bless her heart, poor little scrap.

If it is no better tomorrow, please do consider taking her to A&E. Though I don't know - A&E must be full of germs.

It's so difficult to know what to do with something like this.

I'm glad at least the calamine lotion is soothing her.
