Hi, on Saturday my son woke up with a mark on his chin, just below his lip. He said it was sore (he wasn't touching it, he doesnt like things like that thankfully). Took him to pharmacy Monday who said it may be impetigo but she would have expected it to have spread more by then so to monitor it. She gave e45 to see if that helped.
Today he has returned from school saying inside his mouth is now really sore, he has a sore looking ulcer with red pinprick dots around it.
Any ideas what this could be? Pics below.
Thanks

Looks like a cold sore. You might be able to use Zovirax on it but would need chemistsadvixe because of his age.

Looks like impetigo to me, I had a huge patch on my mouth/lip/chin years ago, was quite sore. If it is, scrupulous hygiene required, spreads easily.

Oh sorry, hadn't seen 2nd photo. No idea about the inside mouth one or if they're related - sounds like one for the GP

Cold sores?
Although if they thought it was impetigo did she not give antibiotic cream rather than suggest e45?

BillyRaywasapreachersson · 06/07/2021 22:39

Just seen inside pic - has he bitten it?

Charley198 · 06/07/2021 22:42

@dementedpixie she didn't think impetigo, she said she thought it would have spread further if it was that. Advised if it got worse to go back and she would give him different cream but in the mean time try e45 (which hasn't done anything yet)

@BillyRaywasapreachersson he assures me he hasnt, he's quite a queezy kid so doesn't like anything that feels abnormal. He said it started hurting him when he was eating his fruit at school and has got worse throughout the day ☹ I guess he may have though

Hmm I thought impetigo too. Could it be hand, foot and mouth?

Another vote for cold sore - herpes virus often causes blister type rashes or areas. It's unusual that it's both internal & external. You could get some Zovirax cream from the pharmacy but it might be worth getting a GP to look at it too as it is a bit unusual

Okay great, thanks all much appreciated
