Side effects of daily steroids

DS has had a number of reoccurring bad coughs since he had bronchitis at 9 months. The most recent one he had to go to hospital as his oxygen levels were abit low.
In hospital he was prescribed two inhalers a preventer and a reliever. The preventer he has twice a day. The doctor said he doesn't think he has asthma which I was concerned about but does think he has childhood wheeze which he thinks DS will hopefully grow out of.
I didn't realise until now that the preventer is steroids. I know the doctors know what's best but I am concerned about the side effects such a thinning bones, affect on his growth, weakening his immune system etc especially as he is using it long term.
I am planning to book an appointment with the doctor as I want to discuss my concerns. I know a Internet forum isn't the best place to come for health advice but I just wondered if other DC are on the same treatment and what affects it/isn't having on them.

Inhaled steroids mainly go straight to the lungs so the risk of any long term problems, especially from a normal dose, is very minimal.

The risk of uncontrolled asthma/viral wheeze is much more likely to cause problems.

as pp
the inhsled steroids are a small dose directly where it's needed, i.e. in the lungs.

not treating an inflammation of the lungs can have long term dire consequences like scarring of the lungs and a higher risk of copd.

don't fuck about with lungs!

The side effects you mention are more of an issue with long term oral steroid treatment, not inhalers.

Thank you both that puts things into better perspective for me. I didn't really get much explained to me just given his treatment so only really into it myself now.
Not having a go at the doctors/nurses they were great. We were seen by so many different ones and they were very busy.
