Eczema and strawberries

Hi

My 4yo DS has eczema which has got drastically worse in the last few months. It was pretty minor before that. He’s even had an infected patch a few weeks ago that he needed antibiotics for. We have tried every cream going. He has slept in the eczema bandage suit. We only use infacare in the bath, and only twice a week.

Anyway, it has suddenly improved and has virtually gone in the last week or two. The only change is that he hasn’t had strawberries in that time. He usually has them every morning with breakfast. Could it really be the strawberries all this time or is it just coincidence?

100% my wee one had this and it turned out to be milk and tomatoes. A couple of weeks of not having any you would never guess he had it in the 1st place

I’ve known of children have strawberry allergies so it could be. Maybe wait a few more weeks of not having them & then try them again & see if he reacts again? Could also be summer heat & general sweatiness aggravating it though?

It could be strawberries. One of my dc and my sister react to them like that. Unfortunately my sister still does as an adult, where as DS grew out it by 3 or 4.

Ok, maybe not coincidence then! Interesting. He’s always had strawberries though.

It has been all through the winter he was bad, so I thought maybe it was central heating dryness. But the warm weather, wearing shorts and t-shirt didn’t improve it.

I used to get eczema in response to strawberries and tomatoes as a child. Wasn't too bothered about the tomatoes but was really fed up about the strawberries! Grew out of it in my teens.

It would be great is he grew out of it. He’s quite happy not to have strawberries. He loves all other fruit.

I have hear it’s tomatoes too. He hasn’t had any tomato based sauces like pasta for a week or two either I think. So it will be interesting if we do, if he reacts.

Strawberries and tomatoes are high in histamine/invoke a histamine response in the body. So could definitely be a cause.

Strawberries are a trigger for my dd, along with citrus fruits. If she dribbled fresh strawberry juice on herself as a baby it looked like we had bathed her in acid, you could almost watch it eat away her skin.
