Does my little one need to see a doctor?

On Friday my child (5) started coughing and I didn’t think much of it until it made her sick at night time. Since then she has been sick all weekend, she is only ever sick when it’s brought on by coughing a lot.

She’s barely eating but after every little meal she ends up coughing/choking and being sick so really she hasn’t been able to keep any food down in days

Is this something I should let ride out? (I’m a single mum so don’t have anyone for advice and also my child is never ill usually so havent been in this situation before) Or would you recommend I see a doctor?

Call 111 and ask them

DecorChange · 28/06/2021 07:31

Would a covid test not make sense?

ineedaholidaynow · 28/06/2021 07:32

Have you had her tested?

Meowwoof771 · 28/06/2021 07:32

We all done a lateral flow test on Friday and all clear.

I forgot to add she has also had diarrhoea

Fucking hell, covid test!

mayblossominapril · 28/06/2021 07:34

My 10 month was like this and she had a chest infection. If you are not sure ring the gp, it’s phone triage so you won’t be wasting a visit

ItsAboutTimeForANameChange · 28/06/2021 07:34

If... she's... symptomatic... she... needs... a... PCR...

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 28/06/2021 07:34

Good luck getting a doctor to see her face to face!
I'd get a covid test, if negative try for a video appointment.
There seems to be a lot of croup going around atm.

SpringRainbow · 28/06/2021 07:34

What have you been feeding her? Is she asking for food? Does her stomach hurt.

It might be worth holding off on food for a little bit and/ or introducing foods slowly starting with things like toast or chicken soup. Things that are bland and easy on the stomach.

Does she have any other symptoms? Temperature? How does she seem in herself.

Also, have you ruled out Covid? I am in no way saying it is, as there are lots of possible things it could be.

If she has symptoms she needs a PCR not lateral flow test. Lateral flow are not accurate enough and have a high false negative rate
SpringRainbow · 28/06/2021 07:36

Have you done a PCR?

Thatswatshesaid · 28/06/2021 07:36

Why do people still not know to test for a cough and a temp? Get her a pcr test and call your GP.

covidcloser · 28/06/2021 07:36

PCR today!

gurglebelly · 28/06/2021 07:37

How is it still escaping people that a lateral flow test is not sufficient if someone has symptoms? Get a PCR test and self isolate until the test comes back negative
ineedaholidaynow · 28/06/2021 07:38

Are you giving her milk, if so I would stop that and just give her water. Need to keep her fluids up.

MiniMaxi · 28/06/2021 07:48

We’ve been there with the “sick from coughing” thing (in pre COVID times)

  1. PCR test
  2. Get phone consult with doc in case they think it’s croup or bronchiolitis
TroysMammy · 28/06/2021 07:49

My sister has been relying on lateral flow tests coming back negative. She had a runny nose so had a pcr as others in the school she works in had covid and it came back positive. Lateral flow tests are only effective if you have no symptoms whatsoever and not just lack of smell of taste, fever or cough.

hedgehogger1 · 28/06/2021 07:55

Another one to say she needs a PCr test. Don't take her to the docs til she's got the all clear

Meowwoof771 · 28/06/2021 08:22

I now have a PCR test booked for today

How did you get on? Is she any better?

Meowwoof771 · 30/06/2021 07:15

It was negative as suspected.

I took her to the hospital as her temperature spiked to nearly 40. They have said she has a respiratory infection and a urine infection and we have been given antibiotics
