2 week fever

My son has been getting a fever on and off for 3 weeks, varying from 38 - 39.5? He has bouts of feeling well and then he seems to be more clingy and I can tell he's not himself.

We all tested negative after the first temp, the following week he was seen by the doctor who said it's 'probably' viral, or possibly hay fever so prescribed antihistamine, which again has done nothing. He has a really chesty cough and his nose is constantly runny, it was clear and is now thick green?

I'm lost with it all, we have all tested negative for COVID again as thought I was best to get checked again as the temp keeps coming up?

Any advice? Thank you

My GP told me that a fever persisting more than 5 days should be investigated.

My DD had pneumonia, so I am very pleased he was thorough and sent her for a chest xray, even though she wasn't really coughing much.

Thanks.

I've been to the GP twice in the past 3 weeks and they have said it's a cold and possible hay fever.

Today the fever started again so I called 111, we have been to the out of hours and they believe it is a throat infection along with a very bad cold and prescribed antibiotics, have to keep an eye on him and alternate between calpol and nurofen.

It makes sense, not once did my gp look in his mouth.

I'm glad your gp is more thorough than mine!

Just came in Mumsnet topmost about the same issue with my dd age 2z something went round nursery 2 weeks ago, same temp on and off, cough runny nose. She got better overall though not fully, and this weekend has been peaking on and off again up to 39.4z. Think I'll take her to docs tomorrow for antibiotics.

@YoBeaches same! My son is 22 months and at nursery 2 days, cough runny nose etc etc.

This morning 3am he started with a temp at 39.5 so decided enough was enough, best to get checked if you are unsure I feel like I've left it long enough (maybe too long) but nursery is like a pit of disease especially an no one has been anywhere for the past year.

He's been sleeping most if the day but I've woken him up for an ice lolly. Even with ibuprofen his temp is still 38.8 poor thing

Sorry typing earlier was awful between doing that and cuddling her with the other! I've managed to get some calpol in (she hates it) and temp is down to 37.4, she's eaten a banana, which is only food all day, didn't even want ice lolly!

This happened yesterday though like she got better as quickly as she'd gone downhill and then was fine till 4am. I've made a plan to keep her off nursery tomo and GP or 111 if it happens again.

It's a bit scary with the high temp, calpol deff works better than the nurofen but she just hates it.

DiscoDinoBooBoo · 27/06/2021 20:27

Oh don't worry I'm doing the same!

I can't seem to get temp any lower than 37.8 with both calpol and nurofen, he had a couple of hours sat up but temp spiking again, sleepy and sad. It's so awful, he's usually running all over.

He's the same just as I think we've turned a corner he's quickly back to the feverish, sleepy stage? It's just so random that it's been up and down for this long?

Think it's a nursery free week for us too! Hope your LO is stating to pick up x
