My 10 month old tends to poo for a day or two at a time, once a week. This has been since weaning at 6 months. I contacted the health visitor at the end of Feb and she said this pattern could continue from when she was EBF as a younger baby (,she could go upto 2 weeks when EBF).

I moved her fully onto formula by around 7 month mark (averages 20 ounces per day) and the pattern continued.

However in recent weeks the stools have become bigger and she is in discomfort going. I contacted HV last week and they have spoken to GP (I have a telephone app on Wednesday). However I am now concerned I've let this go on way too long. She has always seemed well in herself, drinks loads of water, has varied diet, eats 3 x per day and is always hungry. I usually give her 2 - 3 packets of the smooth prunes per week.

I cannot tell if her stomach is too hard or not . I feel terrible and have spent this evening and previous evenings trailing Google looking for similar situations. Can anyone share their experience of similar with their baby at. I really hope her bowel is not permanently damaged.

Is she acting normally, or is she crying or listless? If she's behaving normally and seems happy, I don't think you should be worried sick right now. If she isn't behaving normally then call 111. She may need to be evaluated by a pediatric gastroenterologist in the near future but they are amazing, can help and can really put your mind at ease. My child has severe spastic cerebral palsy and has a tendency,as children like him, to become severely constipated. We've had him blocked for two weeks and it took numerous enemas (and even then it took three days to respond) Best of luck

Thanks. She's a bit grumpy upon waking this AM, but not overly upset. I also wonder if she's getting too much formula..... just trying to BF right now, but I'd imagine my milk supply isn't the most abundant.

Her bowel will NOT be permanently damaged by this. There is a chance it is TEMPORARILY damaged, but if so then getting her pooing well will let it heal back up and regain good function. Have a read of www.eric.org.uk before your appointment. Hopefully your GP will prescribe movicol/laxido 1/2 - 1 sachet per day (made up in liquid), and that will usually gradually start things moving nicely. May need to be on it for a while.
