DS12 is starting to get acne. Any recommendations for products or remedies for this. Not widespread but obviously when they appear!

OK, I’ve reported the post above mine, OP.

I had acne as a young teenager and ran the gauntlet of topical treatments and tretinoins and whatnot. None of those worked. What did work for me was adapalene gel (differin), which is topical but much more effective than either over the counter treatments or antibiotics or topical antibiotics/tretinoins. I’d ask if your GP might prescribe it. It needs to be used with sunscreen and staying out of the sun though.

Nothing over the counter worked for my kids. What worked for them was a combination of oral antibiotics and Tretinoin cream. They needed to use these for several years, then their skin improved and were able to stop. Both required a prescription so I would recommend a visit to the GP.

Don’t use harsh products like Clearasil, they are so agressive that they only cause the skin to produce more sebum as a compensation and the acne will get worse!

I recommend using baby soap (wash twice per day) and using SPF during the day, nothing else except some tea tree oil to put on pimples. And a visit to the dermatologist if the acne keeps bothering him.

barefootcook · 14/06/2021 07:29

Thank you all- some great ideas. I will try the baby soap and tea tree oil to start with. If we have no luck I will take him to the doctor.

Just wondering- why was my post reported? I have no idea.

Thanks again for your help.

I don't think it was your post that was reported, it was the first reply

musthavebeenlove · 14/06/2021 07:40

The first reply was from someone who was clearly trolling

barefootcook · 14/06/2021 09:12

Thank you for clearing that up. Don't want to offendSmile

I wouldn't use Clearasil or harsh gels and creams yet as it destroys the top skin layer ! I buy Oy! Organic clear skin face wash from Green People website - its fab and really gentle on their skin. If they haven't used it for a few days you can tell as the spots start coming back but as soon as they use it again their skin is much clearer by the next day! Definitely worth trying before anything too harsh :-)
