Baby crying after feeds - help!

My DD is 4.5 weeks old but was born at 35 weeks and 2 days - her due date is tomorrow. She was a happy and contented baby up until the last week or so where she has started to cry after feeds and is really quite distraught, the kind of crying that is really difficult to hear. At the moment, she is like this through the day until 11pm or thereabouts but is settled after feeds during the night - as settled as she ever is, anyway - she doesn't have these prolonged and difficult to console crying spells at night so far. I am at a bit of a loss as to what might be causing it as it isn't the same at night. She definitely strains a lot without pooing and is clearly uncomfortable when that happens. If awake, she cries when she farts as well, so I'm sure that wind / immature digestive system is part of it. I can hear / feel creaking in her tummy as well. She has started coughing a bit after feeds as well but it isn't a lot but did make me wonder if she has some silent reflux. Then her older brother (DS14) had cows milk protein allergy & had a prescription formula when he was a baby, which resolved by the time he was one, I think. So I'm wondering if it's that - although he had awful eczema & DD has nothing like that, just these digestive symptoms and crying. Can anyone offer any advice / solutions / ideas? It is horrible to see her like that. I did mention it to HV when she was here on Thursday & was reassured by her response but typically, it has got a lot worse in the past few days and I'm not scheduled to see her again for a fortnight. Any help gratefully received. Thank you!

It definitely sounds like silent reflux, which can be a symptom of CMPA by itself. My eldest was like this. He would scream for a feed, then scream after a feed. He spent his first few months just screaming most of the time TBH.

We got him medication for reflux which helped and then weaning him early made a massive difference.

@Cazzamoomoo Ty so much! Even just a response from someone who has been there makes it feel a bit better! How did you manage the crying? And how did you get the silent reflux diagnosed? She will sometimes seem to be asking for milk / more milk but then not be able to take it as well. Thanks again for replying so quickly.

Definitely sounds like reflux! My DD was the same, it was awful. The only things that helped was infant gaviscon, feeding upright, keep upright for 20-30 minutes after a feed, white noise and tiger in the tree hold (but more upright).. she also loved the outdoors as there was lots of distraction so I’d walk around my garden with her (when it wasn’t too hot).

Gripe water helped with the tummy troubles as well as cycling her legs, tummy massage and putting a warm washcloth on her tummy in the bath.

It’s tough I know, but things improved with the digestive issues around 12 weeks (she was born early too, at 36 weeks).
