Dd is 16 and has autoimmune thyroid disease. She is never completely well, and recently has been particularly tired. Bloods done last week, GP says all is fine.
Her Serum Ferritin is 24 ug/l (range 15-300)
Urea is low, what does that mean ? (It is 2.4, ref range 2.5-7.8)
They didn’t test vitamin D annoyingly.
Waiting for a new consultant .
Also Serum albumin is 50g/l ( range 35-50) .
Weirdly they also didn’t do her thyroid levels , maybe as the TSH and T4 were done a few weeks ago.

Most of the results mean nothing to me, but as I spent a decade unwell, being told my thyroid levels were fine, I like to double check.

My GP once told me ferritin levels should be over 70 to feel well (I've always struggled to get my ferritin over 30 and feel generally quite exhausted a lot of the time) . I've suspected for a while now that the standard blood test ranges in the UK are lower/higher than perhaps they should be for optimal health, in order that the NHS doesn't incur extra costs and instead only responding to results where something is indicating a serious/critical condition. Hope you get some answers soon. Living with fatigue etc is horrible. Especially at her age

Yes I think I have seen 70 minimum somewhere too. She is vegetarian and although she takes a vitamin supplement she sometimes forgets, and may not be getting enough from it anyway.

Low urea doesn't mean much except sometimes that you were well hydrated when the test was done.

If you think vitamin D could be low (eg ethnicity or how much time in the sun she gets) it is pretty low risk just to supplement it eg in a multivitamin.

Vit D is essential for proper thyroid function

We replace iron if ferritin is below 30. So I would have started her on iron with a level that low. The other ones are ok though.

She could be low in vitamin D. My family seem to all have issues with vitamin D, mine was shockingly low as was my brother’s. My mother had osteoporosis from her fifties.
We are all very white and so don’t sit in the sun . Not that there has been any !
