Face Soap for child with eczema

Please can anyone recommend a bar of soap for my 4 yo daughter to try washing her face with? She has eczema so I need a very gentle one. We have been using only Cetraben for now but she doesn't like it on her face and I'm noticing her nose covered in little pimples. Thank you .

Just use plain old water. At her age any soap will be too drying and her oil glands will over-react causing acne.

Hi,

My daughter is 4 months old and has eczema. I have been using an Aveeno daily wash for her on body and face. It is the one branded dermexa specifically for extra dry skin & eczema. I have heard mixed reviews though and that some peoples skin doesn't get on with it though but may be worth a try?

I have also been prescribed oilatum for the bath but this can be used undiluted as a cleanser which has seemed to help.

Dove beauty bar is excellent and is the only bar of soap which doesn’t cause the skin on my hands to scale, crack and peel. I agree with PlanDeRaccordement though, all a 4 year old needs is water.

I’d use nothing but water at that age.

To add to this - the dove bar with Shea butter I find is great for my skin and actually leaves it soft and feeling moisturised.

But for a child I suppose any form of soap will be drying

If she gets mud or sticky face, and water won’t get her clean, use the mildest unscented baby wipes as a facial cloth to cleanse her face. Then rinse with water. Pat dry with towel. Also, do not use any fabric softener on her towels/bedding.

I'm allergic to soap. Synthetic detergent bars like Dove or if you don't like that company then SebaMed or similar which are more expensive. You can Google synthetic detergent band it will come up with them.

Some glycerine soaps are better but not great. Most 'natural' soaps are terrible as they contain lots of lye, which sets off my problems

roxisolerenshaw · 23/05/2021 22:42

I'd recommend Aveeno

Cactuslockdown · 23/05/2021 22:43

I have exczema as do both DC. I wouldn’t advise any type of soap at all. You can use an emollient cream to wash with or oilatum in bath water.

This is from Ireland so not sure about postage but I recommend it to everyone, along with their miracle cream. It really makes a huge difference almost immediately and people seriously rave about it (no idea how to do clicky links sorry!)

Oh clever me Grin

Spainintherain · 23/05/2021 23:16

Thank you. I didn't know she shouldn't use soap as we okay use Cetraben but she has been refusing. It is just for the end of day when she is dirty faced say or after dinner that I was wondering. Also because of the tiny skin coloured pimples on her nose

Don't use soap as it dries the skin which is the last thing you need with eczema. If you think the spots are
Connected to cetreban try a different emollient.
