Can you insist the gp orders blood tests for a 3 year old

My little girl has had a persistent cough for 7 weeks and has lost weight. She's always tired lies around most of the day. Complains with joint pain and is just generally unwell. They are treating her for asthma blue and brown inhaler and added montelukast on Thursday. I'm just convinced there's more going on then asthma. How can I get my gp to order blood tests to check there's nothing more going on. They have done chest X-rays which were clear

You can ask them what else it could be, what else could they test for. Ask for blood tests and if they refuse, ask for your request and their refusal to be written in her notes. That may prompt them. If not, see another GP.

I went to the local children's hospital Thursday and mentioned blood tests and they just did an X-ray and said it was clear have her the new medicine and sent us on our merry way. But I have the most awful feeling there's more to this illness

Are there specific diagnoses that you're worried about or tests that you think are importance? Have you had a chance to talk about them when you have seen doctors so far? In general the most important investigation in children is time, there are always routes to being seen again if you think the picture has changed or that things are going in the wrong direction.

What blood tests do you want the GP to perform OP?

Has your DD seen a paediatrician? Often the Paediatrician will write to GP to ask for specific blood tests. I know when my under 16 (at the time) needed blood tests as specified by his consultant, there was a delay as only one nurse at our practice could perform the blood test.

A little girl who went in before my DS was very distressed when she came out after her blood test, so perhaps unless it was entirely necessary they may decide not to.

I hope your DD is feeling much better soon.

She's so lethargic and unwell. Appetite is shocking and she's not herself. The dr made a referral for a paediatrician so it's a waiting game for that.
