Allergies?

So when my daughter was around 6 months old she started to devleop a rash, mainly on her back and on her chest and sometimes on her neck and face, after going to the doctors a few times they told us it was eczema, she is now 1 years old and the rash is still consistent which can be helped with oatmeal cream, around 7 week ago she got a bit of a cold and developed a cough too, she has the cough to this day. The doctors have said as long as she is eating and drinking like normal and having wet nappies she sounds okay, he said babies can take longer to get rid of things like that as they are only little and not used to it. I have read online that allergies can cause coughs and we do have a dog, I’m wondering if maybe she’s allergic to him and this is also what causes her eczema, and causes it to flare up a lot??? I also read that children don’t really develop allergies until they are at least 2 ? Has anyone else been through anything similar? Thank you

My DS had eczema at 1 month old and was rushed to A&E with an anaphylactic response to egg at 6 months old - so you def don't have to wait til 2 for allergies!

I can't remember the term, but eczema, allergies and breathing difficulties (asthma etc) often come as a triad. He has also had very long term coughs and was hospitalised for breathing issues with colds when he was small.

Have you thought about washing powder? Back, chest and face can all come into contact with clothes, towels and flannels with washing powder, which can cause allergic responses. Likewise bath products.

Don't know much about pet allergies. I'd have thought the obvious symptom would be itchy eyes / wheezing more than a body rash? But not sure. I think if the rash has been constant for 6 months, I might be tempted to get a second opinion or ask for a referral. That can't be comfortable for her!

Yeah well we were initially using softener and non bio washing powder but then I read online that softener can cause flare ups so we instantly stopped using that and did see a massive improvement, and they prescribed us with an oatmeal cream which does help too but every now and then it does flare up quite bad, so I think they need to do some kind of allergy tests right ?

She doesn't actually show any signs of discomfort at all, but it's not nice to see and obviously she can't physically tell me if she's in any pain or discomfort.

I'd ask for some testing. It's quick and easy when they're little. They just poke a drop of the suspected allergen into the skin with a pointy metal thing.

You could also try keeping a food diary just in case

Some of the allergies are caused by exposure, the ones like dust mite allergies. But some you can have it since birth, like my ds was covered with eczema since a week old, reacting to my breastmilk.
You need to get tested for allergy, especially the dog, if you think that's causing her reaction.
