Hypermobilty syndrome

Hi my 6yr old has just been diagnosed with hypermobilty, I'm not too worried as I think it comes from me! (I'm very flexible but never caused me any problems, was never diagnosed) ..he has it worse and it causes him alot of pain 🥺. We have had an awful time recently, he could hardly walk at one point. I'm just wondering if anyone either has hypermobilty or a child with this condition that can recommend footwear, he has kickers which are ankle supporting for school but I want to get him something that supports him at home whilst he's playing etc, he goes over on his ankles frequently...he is also flat footed 🙈 any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance 😁

As someone with hyper mobility I would say the single too most helpful things for me were keeping strong muscles to hold the joints in place swimming was what I did and then latterly some gym work. But from 13 I've worn orthotic insoles in my shoes, see if you can get a referral from GP for a podiatrist. I couldn't and my parent paid privately in the end but it changed my life.

Hi
Two of my children have some degree of hypermobility inherited from "lucky me". They were both seen by a paediatric physio and prescribed Pedro boots. This was over 10 years ago so things may have changed but the boots were literally life changing. My daughter was finally able to walk 6 days after getting hers and they came in a variety of colours. They are very sturdy and hard wearing but really did make a huge difference. I don't know if they would still be available on prescription but might be worth asking.

Good luck, get all the help you can.
